Introduction
Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. In a business set up a leader is expected to exhibit certain leadership traits and skills to be able to inspire others. According to Kevin Kruse, CEO of LEADx, leadership has nothing concerning the seniority or hierarchy in an organization; leaders emerge even from the small position in hierarchies (Kruse, 2020). Concerning my role as a coordinator in the hotel industry, I presume certain influential skills and traits that enable me to inspire and influence colleague employees through the hierarchy of our organization.
Self-assessment
Kimberly Fries reinstates the essence of great leadership in fostering inspiration and accelerated performance in organizations. Leaders have to lead by example to instill relevant values to the employees (Fries, 2018). In my line of duty as I execute my duties and responsibilities, I possess the following traits and skills that have enabled me to be able to coordinate every department that is connected with what I do as a coordinator. First and foremost I believe in honesty, transparency, accountability, and timeliness which I have always observed other inspirational leaders in the hospitality sector employ to enable them to work and communicate effectively (Fries, 2018).
Great leaders possess the value of integrity and aren’t afraid to face the truth (Tracy, 2016). As a coordinator in our organization, I believe in integrity which is well expressed whenever I hold a conversation with any of the employees in the hierarchy of authority in regards to any subject in question. In our organization my employer is always faced with challenges of meeting timely payments as far as salary and waging is concerned however I have always been in a position to communicate to other employees even by use of financial statements from our accounting departments to enable them to have a clear understanding of the cash flow projections. I also believe in punctuality which has enabled me to be able to meet all duly required responsibilities on time by ensuring all my statements are substantiated and also ensure I achieve all that is required as far as our organization objectives are concerned.
Mission Statement
In deriving my mission statement, I considered a time and doing good, thus my statement “Taking time to deliver the best.”
Master core Skills
Dedication is a profound skill that stands out among leaders and eases workplace pressures. It takes a great deal of time to be dedicated and be consistent with perceiving challenges (Michelle, 2015). Dedication is one of the skills I boast about while at work and others at other errands. I have realized that most of my colleagues lack the act of patience whenever it gets to anything impacting their contribution towards organizational goals thus my mission and vision to become a better tomorrow for a worse today. As far as the delegation is concerned it’s still a challenge but I think it’s because I am committed to so many responsibilities, however, I want to begin with the cleaning department to ensure that they execute their duties on time.
Exemplar and Mentor
Mentorship and coaching are essential in all aspects of our lives. I have been cultivation my mentor and wannabe’s legacy by adapting and sharing his wisdom, lessons, and insight. I am working with my employer who has been so influential because he looks forward to meeting organizational goals on time both short and long terms and Mahatma Gandhi who believed how one’s words influence their believes and destiny. “The legacy of mentorship lives on through those you mentor” (ACAMS Today, 2018); I believe one day I will mentor others
Challenging Experience
Challenging and variable experiences in the workplace test our emotional mettle. Such experiences if not handled properly will affect the delivery of other important tasks. I have been able to exhibit exemplary skills at managing a crisis that arises in our organization because I have always dealt with crises such as waging crises (Kunst, 2014). I am looking forward to ensuring that the cleaning department meets its duties on time daily without affecting customer service and ensuring that our organization leads in service delivery towards achieving effective and efficient services in the future.
Training and Feedback
As a coordinator who has been working for the last three years in the hospitality sector, I have noted that employees require an active channel of communication to enable them to feel inspired towards achieving organizational goals and objectives which requires the involvement of the whole hierarchy of authority (Effective Communication…, 2019). I have recommended training for workplace communication to be attended by the whole team.
It is also good to give room to employees in the lower line of management to make their contributions as far as achieving organizational goals is concerned without limiting them of the scarce resources that may be available within the organization. Feedback will be given in the form of confidential logins from the staff portal and through periodical meetings.
