Introduction:
This paper’s critical appraisal is related to the primary research of a particular finding. Physiotherapy student experience of a mindfulness movement and a mindful stress-reduction intervention: A qualitative study with a critical approach. This paper illustrates a better understanding of mindfulness and stress reduction due to mindfulness activities. In this paper, the thematic analysis approach used for exploring pre-clinic physiotherapy students’ experiences in 45 days mindfulness program has a base in either mindful movement or sitting meditation. It indicated the strength of Semi-structured interviews with 12 students after post-intervention along-with six students at a follow-up of 45 days. The main strength lies in the introduction that the participants played a significant role. As all the students were well aware of physical movements, and they participated very well. Still, the limitation is that not all the students did participate.
PART A – Critical appraisal
Authorship
McConville (2019) reveals that research literature’s appraisal had an authorship’s proper evaluation, which included the well-renowned Physio with best affiliations. This research’s authorship had appraised in the mindful activities (McConville and et al. 2019), majorly consists of four authors who had pursued MSportsPhysio and MPsych.Among all the authors, One associated with the Clinical department. Also, associated with the community Division, with best affiliations from the reputed universities. So, as an outcome, Major Strength lies in the research’s authorship as to know stress’s impacts.
On the other hand, this research weakness was lacking in funding. Besides it, no conflicts of interest were present that might perceive for interfering with or biasing this research. A conflict of interest is an extensive situation where contradict interests showed impacts on the study extent. But, Ethical approval received from La Trobe University ‘s Human Resources Ethics Committee. All the participated students provided the written informed consent.
Research question & justification
This study (Frazier and et al. 2019), illustrate identification of “Physiotherapy student experience of a mindful movement and a mindful stress-reduction intervention” on the students that were doing physiotherapy study at a university and they interactively provided information about mindful activities in the mindfulness programme by making use of thematic analysis appraoch. Both sitting meditation and mindful activities were considered(Krasner and et al. 2019).The critical appraisal is that because of multiple elements,it was impossible to know the mindfulness’s relative contributions along with components of lifestyle for the programme’s outcomes. Both movement and meditation -based interventions were accepted by the students of physiotherapy containing programme of the mindful movement revealed majorly advantages as students implements movement’s experiential awareness of their trainee physiotherapists practices. The justification of research illustrated in the introduction of ‘Physiotherapy student experience of a mindful movement and a mindful stress-reduction intervention’ – that indicated the research’s negative point . The other drawback was that Students participated in this research self-selected with the help of volunteering for participation. It was not known that the programme would be successful or accepted by physiotherapy students’s whole cohort who had not done self-selection.
Research design
The author had make use of qualitative procedure (McConville 2019, p. 174) by taking interviews. The thematic analysis procedure described by Braun and Clarke (2006) was utilized for identification , analysing and meaning ‘s report patterns inside the data set.The main good point about it was that The induction of themes were from the data not from the analysing making use of already present theoretical pattern. However,There was not presence of Rationale. In ‘research methods’ part, the illustration of bias is done .The other critical was that the research design did work only on the assumption and it was thought that accurate answers were given by all the participants. (McConville and et al. 2019). physiotherapy students’s written informed consent provided strength to the research.Students’s Lived experience during the programme was well illustrated in design.
Research methods
As taking interviews into consideration,The major weakness lies in the accuracy in the answers .Besides it,only a few students did participation but not all the students did participation. Its Strength lied in the category of participants where the proper location of the students and their year of level is properly mentioned (McConville 2017). The qualitative analytic procedure making use of semi-structured interviews was chosen. But, there was only the least participation by just 17 students that showed agreement to the research and the allocation was did in a random manner to either an MMov or MSR group. But the strength is that the students were provided mindful practices and after that the impact of mindful activities was noticed by taking interviews (Krasner and et al. 2019).The study’s strength also lied in the detailed illustrated information provided for collection and analyzation of data .The authors made use of the interviews for getting the outcomes. The method was well illustrated by making use of both the tables.
Results and Limitations
The main negative point of the result that were concluded by four authors McConville and et al. (2019) was that they only make use of qualitative approach to a limited number of students.Besides it,the whole participated students in the research session ,did not participate in the interview session.Because of attriation, only 30 percent of the participants had participated in the follow-up interview but a major portion of the participants was missed. Not all age group of the people were considered to measure the complete impact of mindful activities on the stress. But the strength was the participants of interview interactively participated. The particpants participated in the both interviews and they provided their real experience about the mindful activities and how it impact on the level of stress.
PART B – Enablers and Barriers
The research paper’s discussion session must be considered carefully for providing scenario evaluation. As per the authors(2019),The mindful activities with the help of both groups seems to be of good value and a remedy for reducing the stress level in students( Krasner and et al. 2019).Both MSR and MMOV programmes enables the awareness in the participated students to a great extent.By knowing the outcomes for example muscle tension , Enhanced rate of heart , making participants to do recognisation of the response to an early stage. As a conclusion, reduces overall tension’s levels (Fahrenkopf 2018).At the organizational level, barriers to the adoption of these recommendations can include variant category of other participates that could show the impact of mindful activities in variety of age group. But barrier is that these factors are not present in all students. Also, there was a possibility of providing wrong answers were the participated students (Price and et la. 2019).
Conclusion
The prime research’s critical appraisal study provided the outcome that McConville (2019) and other authors had done research on the impact of mindful activities for reducing stress by implementing these activities by doing a practical exercise on all the participated students. Although , publication of enormous paper related to the same topic had already done but the qualitative research by all the four authors provided a better illustration. The prime contradicting appraisal also showed that lacking of disclosure statement, rationales absence indicated a selection for research’s design .Subsequently, interest disclosure’s conflicts along with various limitation and not participation of whole students indicated a bad appraisal. However,The mindful activities association with stress level in university’s students is the main strength of the research. Also, comment section and projected work is for overcoming the research’s deficiencies. But, lot of research is to done in the same research field(2019).
