Ministry and what it means to me.
I often think about my passion and what drives me to do the things I do when thinking about ministry and what it means to me. Ministry is important to me because of many reasons. According to my school of thought, the ministry is serving other people the way I serve the Lord. I usually feel that I am obliged to help by sharing words of encouragement or just providing basic needs when I can. I always believe that God has truly blessed me because I have touched many lives over the years. I believe that ministry is everywhere you go but not confined to the building. As such, it is the Godly things that affect us and those around us.
I am preparing for ministry by continuing with my education because it provides me with varied perspectives. This is because I firmly believe that knowledge is power. This will allow me to be more empowered and comfortable to share the word of God. The education that I receive helps create a foundation for the type of ministry that I would like to have. I have also been preparing for the ministry by volunteering to serve in ministry-related events, taking leadership positions in the ministry, and being involved in church. This is essential because I would adopt and seek advice from those with experience in the ministry. Growing up in a Christian family has also played an indispensable role because my mother made it mandatory to attend every church service. As I got older, I made it a habit of continuing what my mother had instilled in me. As such, the ministry has become a passion for me.
I have learned to deny myself by putting God first for most in my life. Ministry had to start within me by believing in it before I could embark to what God needed me to do. This, however, is not the absolute truth because different people have different perspective of how to start the ministry. I will grow spiritually by learning to love others more. This is because it is very challenging to minister if you do not understand the power of love. In John 3:16, points out that Gods loves us so much that He gave his son to die for our sins. Learning the importance of love is essential in growing spiritually.
Additionally, I will grow spiritually by reading the bible throughout the year and other religious resources. This will help me gain insight on how challenges were overcome in the Bible. It will also be source of guidance. This will be enhanced by joining the Bible study group. I will also pray and fast. This is because prayer linked with fasting was done in the Bible. In Ezra 8:23, it states that we fasted and prayed to God to take care of us and hear our prayer. Praying is also essential in my growth. This is because Early (2010) states that the difference between ineffective and effective spiritual leaders is prayer. I will also start journaling my thoughts as I read the word of God. This is essential because I will identify where God took me from and what He has done for me for the whole year. Most importantly, I will continue to develop a strong relationship with Godly mentors to guide me in the journey. This will allow me to be well prepared to enter the ministry.
