The MM case study describes how Werner McCann, the Project Manager at MM company, faces challenges with his newly assigned Green project.  Brian Smith, the CIO at MM, assigns McCann to the Green project, which is to be delivered with less than twelve months. With three months remaining to launch the project, McCann is faced with problems ranging from poor collaboration to the lack of skilled personnel for the project (McKeen & Smith, 2015, p. 324-327). This paper explains how various factors at MM, acted as support and barrier to the Green project success, and the actions that McCann should consider to deal with the issues.

Factors that increased the degree of success for the Green project

Typically, particular organization factors can steer the success of a project. In the case of the Green project, several factors have surfaced that are seen to support the project. One of the main factors supporting the project is the current technology used by MM company. MM has integrated with an information management renewal (IMR) system, which supports the establishment of the Green project (McKeen & Smith, 2015, p. 324).

Secondly, the evidence of the cooperation McCann is offered in the organization encourages the success of the project. Having the full support of the organization makes it easy for the project to receive the necessary resources to cater for the operation (Hoda & Murugesan, 2016). Lastly, having the right team for the project is very crucial for the success of the project. MM has mandated McCann with the project since he is the best. Similarly, McCann gathers the best team, which he believes will help the company actualize its idea.

Barriers to the Green project success

Besides, the factors that give a promising end to a project, some aspects may reveal the contrary. In the case of the Green project, some barriers have arisen that significantly decrease the success of the project. One is the political challenge that exists within the organization. McCann expresses his dislikes to the political games played within the organization, which significantly inhibits the success of any given project (McKeen & Smith, 2015, p. 324).

Additionally, the lack of enough resources may suppress the likelihood of project success. McCann is disturbed by the thought of lack of enough expertise in the organization to drive the project to its completion. In addition, the lack of efficient collaboration and cooperation has negatively affected the success of the Green project. For instance, Tompkins fail to cooperate with the rest of the team, and this brought setbacks to the project (McKeen & Smith, 2015, p. 326).

Actions that McCann should take right away

For the success of the project, McCann needs to do several things. He needs to inform the CIO about the error in the project and asks that the project plan be revised to allow the incorporation of the new technology. Next, he should meet Tompkins to ask for his cooperation as the project gets structured again. Also, he should communicate with HR to hire Linda Perkins and also offer her the benefits as discussed with the previous HR. With these actions, McCann could see the project into completion with fewer challenges (Cheng, 2018).

Conclusion

In conclusion, the case study has clearly illustrated the type of issues that may arise with any given project. Significantly, the management of any given project or task is a critical issue that requires proper planning. If this is not the case, challenges could arise, such as the ones described by the case study above. Therefore, it is important that factors supporting the success of a project to be upheld and sustained at any given stage of the project.
