Module 09 Discussion: What Motivates you to Become or Stay Healthy?

Whether I consider myself to be healthy

Health occurs when individuals have complete social, psychological, and spiritual functioning (Leonard, 2018). This statement considers the holistic nature of health and not merely the absence of disease or disability. Based on this argument, I do not consider myself as a healthy individual. This happens since lately, I have been overly stressed about the extent to which I was diagnosed with depression in April. I can attribute my current psychological status to the job I lost in January. When this happened, my finances were heavily affected, and I had to move back to my parent’s house since I could not pay my bills. Depression has touched all the aspects of my life since I am socially withdrawn, and I do not attend the church or read the Bible like I used to do. I feel like I have failed in life and even have suicidal thoughts at times.

What motivates me to become healthy?

I want to come out of my current status and achieve holistic health. Depression has affected all the domains in my life, and I am unable to function as I did in the past when I was healthy. I would socialize and interact with my friends and even strangers. My friends used to refer to me as the “life of the party” due to my excellent interaction skills. I was also an active church member who was a youth and choir member in our church. Besides, I never missed the Sunday service since I experienced a sense of wellbeing while amongst other believers. I want to achieve good health again so that I can function normally as I used to do.
