Internal and External Motivation

Motivation is a cycle that begins with a psychological desire that triggers behavior or a drive that is directed at a target or reward (Ryan, & Deci, 2017). Throughout human lives, motivations play a significant role in shaping their general composure and ability to deliver. Regardless of age, status, profession, gender, religion, and other determinant factors in the make-up of society, motivation influences the development of individuals, organizations, and even countries. However, these motivations can be intrinsic (internal) or extrinsic (external), where external motivations are triggers of behavior that comes from outside of individuals. And internal motivations are triggers of behavior that are accomplished for personal reasons or targets (Ryan, & Deci, 2017).

I am more influenced by the internal motivation to perform almost all my operations because I do it out of self-drive and passion for achieving the best for me. Even though I encounter external motivations, especially at the workplace such as employee of the year recognition, I utilize my internal motivations such as passion and the love to do the right thing at all times to guide me to achieve personal goals and other targets. Leading others is now more comfortable having learned this trait about myself because I will focus on nurturing the intrinsic motivators in people as it makes them more self-driven. And a self-driven person can achieve mountain top results because one does it because they love doing it with or without supervision.
