Multiculturalism
Moral relativism is a widely discussed topic in North America. Multiculturalism, in particular, has gotten the attention of many, especially in Canada. Multiculturalism takes into account four distinct factors, which include Demographic reality, political philosophy, Government formulation of policies, and government discourse on multiculturalism. Currently, the world is moving beyond cultural boundaries as technology advanced. Cultural differences are fading away as civilization takes shape. Things like talent flow and family reunification are making the world have one culture. This is perhaps the reason behind the debate concerning multiculturalism. Several societies have integrated the concept because of its benefits. In the past, the idea of multiculturalism was unheard of as people were culturally connected.
With globalization, a country has people from different cultural backgrounds, races, and religions. Therefore, if the country upholds multiculturalism, it will be easy for those people to relate well. Globalization also promotes labor mobility from one country to another. The interactions between people from different countries at work encourage the sharing of knowledge and skills vital for a country’s economy. Multiculturalism has promoted international education, where students can go and study abroad (Modood, 2017). This has seen the world experience uniform growth as the developing countries can get the opportunity to acquire the same knowledge as that disseminated in developed countries. Therefore, multiculturalism promotes knowledge, skills, and technological transfer from one state to the other.
In Canada, multiculturalism is a source of pride as it serves to unite French and English speaking Canadians (Berry, 2018). It is worth noting that the two groups belong to different cultural backgrounds. With multiculturalism, they can all live in peace and unity. Cultural differences can lead to local disputes that have the potential to harm the national development programs. Cultural acceptance and maintenance are factors that have brought peace and preserved them in the country. They promote equality and perpetuate the idea that each culture is significant, therefore helping the Canadians to interact peacefully amongst themselves irrespective of racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds. I believe multiculturalism is worth supporting based on its significance in a nation that is enhancing national integration and identity.
