From caring comes courage. These are timeless words by Lao Tzu that inspire my ambition in developing others and myself through caregiving. My name is Bianco Bernard, and I believe that it is through the devoted acquisition of knowledge that one is empowered to offer exceptional service to the world. I mainly have an interest in the aging population. Personal experiences through keen interest, research, and interactions with the elderly and role models in the field of long-term care have provided me with a vital solid foundation in my decision to seek further the requisite skills and experience required in this crucial field. I intend to utilize my personality in innovatively and creatively learning new and exciting information as well as make a significant impact on learning and service.
Caregiving is less of a duty and more of a responsibility that one has to bear willingly and with the right mindset. I feel strongly about this and have been doing this in various non-formal capacities. I know that this is what I must pursue. The experience that I have gained first hand working with the elderly through various projects, initiatives, and personal drive has opened my eyes to the vital role that long-term care plays in the society – and why I must contribute proactively. I know that the Texas State University family and community is more than capable of incubating my ambition and further motivate me to higher achievement.
As a critical final point, I am increasingly inclined towards being valuable and compassionate to people by being active in positively impacting those around me. I know that acceptance will offer me the crucial opportunity to apply myself positively through leadership and other opportunities both within the institution and externally as I learn, and after. I will use the skills, experiences, and other vital elements that will be learned to constructively model and continue my practice in caregiving.
