My First Time Was Extremely Painful and Not Fun

Hello techies. Gosh, it’s been so long guys, believe it or not, I did miss you all. Actually, with the lockdown and all, which by the way, is not so cool but very necessary, I got plenty of time to reflect, and I think you readers are fantastic and … I don’t know where I’m going with that (booo!). But, Techsvile Island, we never rest, lockdown or no lockdown, and we’re working on some awesome product that you guys will love (yaay).

Speaking of love, we all know it doesn’t begin with prince charming finding snow white. They had to deal with the evil queen and all that drama. If you’re a fan of Once Upon A Time, then you know our favorite necessary evil Rumplestiltskin, he too was such a force that prince charming and snow white had to deal with. But, that is love, painful and so much rewarding if you can weather the storm and kill a few evil people. This was the same with our divine Malkia Incu-brooder, it wasn’t love at first sight, and if anything, it was gloomy, stormy, and melancholy, not to forget EXCRUCIATING PAIN we dealt with!

It began while in campus. You have this big dream of big cars, a big house, big money, big everything, which was good because these dreams were a driving force to creating this brilliant product. Aside from the big dreams, when you’re in campus, you certainly are broke, with every big dream is a reflection of how small things are really on the ground.

I think we called it, kwa Chela, her chapo dondo, and avocado were such a dream come true. Yup, we did enjoy that.

The idea to venture into poultry farming and get more chums was not so bad. You always hear older farmers talk about how much wealth they’ve racked up because of poultry farming. I tell you, when a topic about money comes, our ears are wide open on the ground. We love money, I mean, who doesn’t?

Bah, poultry doesn’t seem hard; it’s just a bunch of birds. You just need to feed them, clean their poop, and boom they’re adults and ready to sell. Here come the millions!

The idea of simplicity in poultry farming is just a dream. If you’re familiar with the word SNAFU, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. That word, simply put, summarizes everything we experienced in this journey. Literally, our poultry farming journey was SNAFU. It was doomed from day one!  We were broke and doomed.

I’m getting way ahead of myself here.

We started with 100 day-old chicks. A day-old chick is not sh.10, they’re expensive. But then, we didn’t so much care about the initial cost, I mean, big wins need significant risks! And my, we risked it all. Who could blame us, our eyes were blinking the dollar sign. If these 100 chicks grew up, and we had to sell at sh.1000 each, our profits would have doubled or tripled.

We would be driving Range Rovers while we’re still in campus. Tungetesa!

Sadly, our dreams then were just dreams, because taking care of chicks is no child’s play, and we were toddlers when it came to poultry farming.

Losing money is painful, but losing while in campus, well, even ancestors cannot explain that kind of pain.

Out of 100 day-old chicks, only three survived. And they too didn’t survive for so long. Their rate of demise was like a death wave had been sent our way as two would die today and then three the next. Everyday, a chick or two or three would die. Despite our efforts of trying to keep them warm, feeding them, spending time with them, it still wasn’t enough, they died.

I’m sure a lot of you farmers relate to this. You buy 300 eggs, only 20 hatch, and only two chicks become adults. It’s no joke to any farmer because buying these fertilized eggs to incubate them is no simple exercise, you spend money and time, and then more money and more time, and to be only left with two adult birds? It’s painful. It really is painful.

Lucky for us, we didn’t give up. We decided instead to invest in making a machine that would never rest, that would be 100% accurate, and that would make sure that we don’t spend more time or more money.

Humans are prone to make mistakes, it’s in our nature, and we’re never as accurate either. Machines and technology, on the other hand, are the opposite of our weaknesses. Unlike us, who need to rest, machines don’t.

We lost 100 day-old chicks, but we bore Malkia Incu-brooder that ensures a 97% survival rate of chicks.

No more losing, yaaas!

Farmers can now do less and get so much more.

Malkia Incu-brooder is the option that wins out.

Ps, this story reflects what the founder, Samuel Mwangi, CEO of Plotus Technology, and founder of Malkia Incu-brooder wet through to come up with this product. It’s not the full account, though.
