My list of needs to improve supervision and safety within the jail and training
My list of needs to improve supervision and safety within the jail and training of operational personnel include mental health services, social support services for the offender’s family members, vocational training services and other educational training should be offered, counseling sessions, prevention services for relapse. HIV education, counseling and testing, pregnancy management, and compressive prenatal care, and also parenting class should be offered to female offenders. Besides, there should be drug tests and screening, provision of basic needs since most parolees are not capable of meeting their basic needs. Besides, the offenders should be linked with appropriate sources in tracking their cases, reporting information to the authorities, monitoring their current conditions, and have regular contact with the legal officers.
The particular item that would be my priority would be counseling sessions. Counseling sessions would be ideation offering mental assistance to the offender and imparting inspirational interventions that would allow them to accept their current condition ad adhere to the law as they wait for justice to be served based on their cases. The reason why counseling sessions are essential in supervision and safety within the jail is that prison settings often present opportunities and rises concerning offenders who might be violent. hence, counseling sessions would enable the counselors to tap the prisoner’s anger, and frustration and instead, mold them to become law-abiding citizens. besides, they should be actively allowed to participate in facilities that are friendly, safe, and humane regardless of the offense they have committed. This would give them a chance to reflect o their life and change towards becoming better when allowed back into the community. Moreover, pretrial detainees should be allowed to benefits from the services offered to all offenders. This would maintain a safe and human environment that would not exhibit violent behaviors since good prison management is considered for all offenders.
The chief correctional officer should be trained and prison management skills should be imparted in him or her to allow him or her to manage detainees as recommended without subjecting them to the extremely harsh conditions that might violate their rights. The chief correctional officer should have good management skills, and ensure the facility is operated aim a manner that keeps other staff safe, the community safe and inmates are kept safe as well. The chief correctional office should maintain order within the facility and protect inmates from harm by other inmates and the staff. There should be restriction imposed o prisoners and the chief correctional officer should ascertain that the legitimate objectives for which such restrictions are imposed. Additionally, the chief correction officer has to respect the dignity of inmates and adhere to the human rights principles of the inmates. The internal processes should be implemented and the chief correctional officers should assess and improve the correctional facilities. In case of shortage, he or she has to ensure that the shortages are addressed to allow inmates to be comfortable in their facilities. Hence, the chief correctional officer has to monitor the entity regularly and improve where necessary.
