National Organization for Women

Introduction

NOW is an American activist organization. The organization was founded in 1966 and its main aim is the promotion of equal women rights. The group has more than 500,000 members making it the largest feminist group in the US. The group was established by a feminist group that was against sex discrimination. The organization is made up of both men and women and has its headquarters in Washington D.C. The organization address a number of issues including lobbying, pregnancy leave, abortion rights, child care, and pension rights (Fesette, 2018).

The national organization for women attains its members by the lobbying work, rallies, pickets, and mass marches. The organizations have helped many women in ensuring their equal rights. More women have been empowered and have had fewer instances of discrimination. Through the efforts of the organization, women have had more employment opportunities and increased education thus ensuring the organization more members.

The National Organization of Women has empowered women throughout its course. Women have been given equal chances in all aspects of life with the help of the organization.

NOW strives to eliminate discrimination and ensure equal women rights in all aspects of life. In order to achieve this, the organization use lobbying work, and rallies.

In 1967, NOW asked for legalization of abortion and repelling the anti-born laws. In 1994 the supreme court affirmed NOWs right to use federal laws against the anti-abortion extremists who were against abortion. The organization was able to address the issue as NOW Appeal to legalize abortion was heard and enabled by the Supreme Court (Fesette, 2018).

Past conferences and their outcomes

NOW organized a march in 1978 which supported the equal rights amendment. In the march, there were more than 100000 people who came to march. Later in the years, equity was ensured by ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.

In 1995 there was a demonstration organized and mainly focused on violence against women. In the protest, there were more than 200,000 people. This led to the implementation of rules that were against violence thus addressing the issue.

In 1996, there was a gathering that was against the radical right to support abortion rights, economic justice, bisexual rights, and in ending violence against women. Most of the issue were addressed including the equal rights for women and bisexual rights,

The organization has ensured equal rights for women and ensured women a better place in providing better education for women, ensuring employment opportunities for women and more. The organization monitors the cases involving women empowerment by the Supreme court in ensuring equal opportunities for women (Nicolini, K. M., & Hansen, S. S., 2018).

The organization is open for male and female members who wish to join the group. The organization has ensured equity for women in the aspects of life including the political aspect. The organization has ensured a more female position in the senate and other positions in the United States government.

The organization has been able to prevent and violence against women through the women act of 1994. Besides the organization has ensured the legalization of abortion. The organization has also been successful in ensuring equal rights for women.
