Nursing

Nursing practice is advancing such that it requires more information for it to be aligned with the goal of 2020 of evidence-based practice. However, some barriers are there which prevent its implementation. Firstly, the nurses do not have updated clinical information that helps to tackle the challenge to reach the goal. As a result, they cannot cope with the current technology, which requires them to have information concerning the patient they are encountering each day. The patients continue to suffer in the hands of the misinformed nurses due to the devices they need to be used upon the nurses cannot use them. For instances, the nurses who are relying on smell, touch, taste, hearing and sight cannot be able to detect some signs which machine can detect and therefore some patient they end up deteriorating in the hands of these kinds of nurses (Shayan, Kiwanuka, and Nakaye, 2019). Secondly, lack of necessary resources for the nurses; they deliver services that do not meet the quality health care for the patients. For example, when there are right devices for treating patients like oximetry, some patients may end up in breathing difficulties, and at some point, they may die. Similarly, during this time of CoVID-19, some nurses in the US found it difficult to get personal protective equipment, which became a barrier to delivery.

Therefore, to address the barriers to the evidence-based practice goal, there should be enhanced training and education offered to the nurses. Consequently, offering training will give the nurses more information concerning the technology of devices that are better for offering quality health care. Additionally, training enhances competencies for nurses (Cardoso, Couto, Cardoso,  Louçano, Rodrigues, Pereira, and Apóstolo, 2020). The government can also set aside funds for providing resources that the nurses need to enhance the quality of services they deliver to the patients. Thus, some cases of death that may have been resulting due to lack of advanced technological devices like oximetry will be reduced.
