Roles
According to the AANP, which is the initials for the American Association of Nursing Practitioners are capable of recognizing the scope and the practice of the nursing practitioners. Some of the roles described by the AANP in nursing practitioners include prescribing. It is the role if the nurses to prescribe the drugs or medicines during the patients’ medication process and procedures; it is essential to note that prescription is not a unique role of nurses. Still, it is one of their roles ( Specialist Nursing Support: The role and nurse Prescribing, 2020). According to the AANP, prescription authority is sole responsibility. It is regulated by the state boards in nursing since they are educated and fully certified by the relevant bodies that certify them. They play a role in the prescription of controlled medication, legends, healthcare services, devices on how to use durable medical equipment, and provision of timely, quality, and effective healthcare services. Nurse practitioners also play an essential role in performing and conducting diagnostic tests. They are capable of operating various medical equipment based on their skills, competence, and qualifications. The nurse’s practitioners also play a vital role in collaborating with other staff on the planning of the patient’s care. They take down the information of patients. Hence they write down the medical history and the symptoms they see in a patient. They also have a role in advocacy for the patient’s wellbeing.
Barriers
Nursing practitioners play a vital role in medication and patients care in the healthcare system . despite them playing an avital role, some inhibitors make them unable to perform smoothly at their best of their capacity. Some of the barriers to their ability to achieve include State practices and licensures (Tedesco & Mayo, 2020). Some regulations regulate the nurses’ practitioners to practice as per their qualifications and education. The laws and regulations keep in varying from state to state despite the full practice mandate they are entitled to. Another barrier is the physician-related issue; There are beliefs under the MMA that nurses are not competent due to their shallow training. The body assumes that the nurses are incapable of offering quality and safer care like the physicians. Payer policies is another barrier. This links the state practice and regulations and other important elements. It requires that nurses are employees in healthcare or a hospital (Tedesco & Mayo, 2020). Some scopes are more restrictive and offer more strictness; hence the nurses are not independent. The nurses are unable to conduct the follow-ups to the patients in an acute healthcare facility, which is also a barrier towards achieving. Some nurses are compelled to quit searching for job satisfaction.
