Operations managers
Operations managers’ are very important individuals in the running of day-to-day operations of any organization. They are assigned various tasks, which in ensuring the smooth running of a business. In their daily assignments, they are required to possess some major skills to make their work easier. These skills may include good communication skills with different levels and type of people. They should have a convincing power to put across given message or information that they want to pass to their junior staff, their customers and even their superiors. Good operations managers should be able to make organizational customers happy and satisfied in the manner in which they pass a piece of important information.
Effective operational managers should also be in a position to understand the financial performance and position of the organization they are in. They should always put keen emphasis on the financial statements, ledger books and balance sheets of the organization, which in general will help them, and other stakeholders come up with a good conclusive financial decision and future projection of the organization.
They are also expected to understand their customer’s needs by determining the true measure at which customers are satisfied. This makes it easy to connect with customers without necessarily needing to make much research on their preferences. Understanding of customers will also help in giving appropriate guidance to junior staff on how to make customer deliveries to various customers based on their taste and preference. A skilful operations manager is also expected to have the ability to measure and track staff performance by setting objectives that are expected to be achieved. This will help in gauging various staff based on their performance, which in return may be used in determining the payment packages that are due to various staff based on their output within the organization.
As an effective operational manager, one should also have the ability to enforce standards within the organization. Rules and regulations should be set to enforce adherence of policies and procedures that should be governing the operations of the organization. Consequences should also be put clear for those who do not adhere to or ignore the set rules. This will ensure ensures that the organization is operated procedurally.

That is a commendable post from you. I agree with you that operations managers are important in achieving organizational goals. To achieve this, however, they should possess some critical skill which is paramount the running of an organization. They should have the power to delegate the various task to their junior staff without making them feel that the delegated task is a burden to them. They should also have the skill to maximize the available labour force by assigning duties to each staff member within the organization. A skilful operations manager should also ensure that staff are motivated by providing psychological support and seeing to it that all staff are properly paid and paid in good time.
