Organizational culture affects the employees in terms of their performance, commitment and self-confidence. Any organization that wishes to retain its customers should put into consideration several motivation factors to enhance this. Employee motivation determines the results in the field assigned to them. Therefore it is vital for all organizations to generate the motivation procedures for their employees, so that can increase their productivity and the returns at large. Motivation leads to raised working morale in individual employees; organizations can prefer awarding the best employees in terms of performance as one of the motivation measures. The award given can be in the form of additional salaries or more of days, this will motivate other workers to up their game and eventually raise the standards of the firm. The organization should cultivate a positive culture one that is in line with the requirements, and the beliefs of the employees, such culture will help to retain the employees within the organization.
There are four types of organizational cultures, i.e. achievement culture, support culture, power culture and role culture. Achievement culture is based on the strategies that the organization shall employ to ensure that it attains the set targets and objectives or goals at large. In contrast, support culture deals with the measure that supports or facilitates the achievement process. The role power is a culture where the organization distributes the roles to the various employees, and the employees are required to perform the tasks assigned and are held answerable in case of anything. Any organization must define its culture so that employees can understand the direction that the organization assumes (Fiaz At.al., p. 146-153). The leaders in an organization have a significant role in influencing the employees positively and creating a positive culture. If the leaders do not positively impact the employees, the organization can’t retain them. It takes only the efforts of one leader to tamper with the efforts of the employees and make retention process hard to achieve.
Some companies stand out to be so generous to their employees by giving them various beneficial packages. In contrast, others are highly criticized by the employees because of the violation of their rights and general mistreatments. Such companies are not able to retain their employees because of poor employee management. Subjecting the employees to long working hours, inadequate payment mechanisms, and unappreciative management are the major factors that discourage employee satisfaction. Employees who find it interesting to attend work every morning impact a positive change to the organization as compared to those who push themselves every morning to attend work. They tend to drag down the profits of the organization due to reduced productivity while the motivated ones lead to increments in the earnings due to higher productivity.
The Chief Executive officer of Amazon described the time’s article as sparse representation of an organization cannot tolerate the abnormal management practices. The article was used to reveal the organizations that have a terrible employee reputation due to brutality and poor working conditions; it has proved impossible to shed off this poor reputation. Family Dollar Company registered the highest number of complaints, with reduced payments and long working hours being the top complaints amongst the employees. Employees were complaining that managers were having a severe struggle with the fixed budgets and this exposed them to longer working hours to counter the extended hours in the various stores (Liewendahl, At.at, P. 98). Companies such as the ATD corporative is one of the companies that have well defined motivational struggles. The company has several sales representatives that are distributed all over the place. These sales representatives are paid a basic salary plus an additional commission on goods that are above a certain amount. This motivates the employees to work harder to make more sales and earn more money.
It can be concluded that employee motivation is a crucial determinant of organizational productivity. Every organization should design measures to ensure that its employees are motivated. Motivation can be expressed in terms of additional payments, where the best-performed employees are given a monetary reward on top of their basic salary to keep them motivated to work more and also to encourage others to work harder. Other companies would opt to give hardworking and productive employees more days off work. This also motivates other employees to increase their efforts to receive such (Ciobanu, At.at, P. 10-36). Different motivation strategies are recreational forums, where the best employees are taken out to enjoy recreational activities without being charged. Organizational culture is also a critical factor in the success of any organization that wishes to have a positive employee reputation. This refers to those companies that want to retain their employees so that their organizations do not turn to be training grounds for employees after which the employees take the knowledge obtained to other organizations. To maintain the standards, the organization should implement a good culture, where the requirements of the employees are put into considerations, and their rights are observed.
