Patient Encounter
Currently, I cared for a male patient suffering from depressive disorder linked to traumatic injury. The client’s caring process was challenging as the client was unwilling to take part in the care and adhere to the medication.
Strategies that I Employed to Handle the Situation
In handling the situation, I employed proper communication skills to convince him to offer information about all his concerns and the importance of adhering to medications (Tehranineshat et al., 2019). In so doing, the patient was open and shared his concerns and agrees to adhere to all the medication guidelines.
Other Strategies That I Could Have Used
Alternative strategies that I would have used to get adequate information regarding the patient’s health concerns include the use of gestures, maintaining eye contact and inter-professional collaboration.
How I Advocated For the Patient
Following the establishment of the patient’s health concerns, I involved in the patient’s care coordination. As such, I referred the client to a psychiatrist to receive counselling and advice on how to handle depression (Maharaj, Lee, & Lal, 2019). As such, he was taught how to identify thought patterns linked to the development of depression. Besides, I referred the client to a physiotherapist for advice on how to perform physical exercises to avoid the risk of developing depressive symptoms. As such, he received comprehensive health care.
Legal and Ethical Implications That Need To Be Considered When Providing Care for Patients with Depression Resulting From Illnesses
Important ethical and legal implications that should be considered when addressing when offering care to a client suffering depression due to illnesses include informed consent, patient-centred care and confidentiality (Graham et al., 2019). These ethical and legal implications are critical to prevent patient’s concerns negligence, sharing of patient’s private medical information and understanding the health progression.
