I once read a quote, “It takes a strong woman to love a military man.” I did not give much thought to the quote since I was just a teenager and marriage was out of the question at the moment. Little did I know how that particular quote would strengthen me along the way much later in my adulthood and marriage.

At first, I saw military life as a huge barrier to a successful marriage because of the deployments and moving from one military camp to another across the country. However, when I met the man who later became my husband, all the worries and second-guessing vanished into thin air.

Surprisingly, even with the right man, being a military wife is hard. For me, the biggest huddle is parenting alone. Most often than not, my husband has to work away from home for months on end or even more. Therefore, he misses most birthdays and school events, and I have to stand in his place to make sure the children do not feel lonely or affected psychologically by his absence.

Furthermore, it is hard for me to maintain a career because moving all over the country disrupts workflow. Every time I put my head into something I am interested in, my husband gets transferred and even before I start my career we have to move. Therefore, after putting much thought into it, I decided to take up a course in cosmetology. I started considering cosmetology the moment I knew that military life would have me moving all over the country.

I have a passion for cosmetology because I love hands-on and creative work. Cosmetology is the perfect choice for me because my career will not get disrupted by the constant movement. With training from an institute such as the Paul Mitchell School, I can get a job quickly in any salon across the county.

Due to the much time I spend alone, I developed a passion for visiting orphaned children.  A military life means that I have to get used to talking about dying and the traumatic effects of war. Therefore, I like spending time with orphaned children and offering emotional support. I was part of a group that provided guidance and counseling to children whose parents died in the war. Such children need someone who understands military life, and since monetary compensation is not enough to replace their parents, we offered moral and emotional support to bereaved families.

A course in cosmetology at Paul Mitchell Schools would enable me to get a job, even on a short-term basis, at any salon across the country. From my nomadic military life, it is impossible for me to maintain a career in any other field apart from cosmetology. I consider Paul Mitchell School my institute of choice because of the illustrious history in producing skilled artists and beauty professionals. I believe that I will get maximum exposure and experience in Paul Mitchell Schools. Please consider my application for the cosmetology scholarship. Thank you.
