Personal Essay
It is difficult to think of going back to school when juggling family, work, friends, and all other personal life responsibilities. Getting your kids to school or practice of class concepts on time seems daunting enough. I am a single mother of two boys, a full-time employee, and a student at the same time. However, I feel that completing my degree in social work will help me have a better future. Completing my degree will increase the chances of earning more and offer a better life to my young family and me. Other than offering an opportunity to advance my career, completing my degree will also help me set a good example, my two young boys. It will be a good challenge for them to also work hard in their academics.
When choosing for a scholarship opportunity, my fist criteria would be financial needs. On many occasions, scholarship involves financial needs. I would, therefore, prefer scholarship opportunity, which caters to academic as well as personal needs. The second criteria are files of interest. The desire for a scholarship should be driven by passion and persistence. Allowing own passion for prevailing is the best way to a scholarship. Either to end up with proper scholarship, I will include Geographic Boundaries and demographic criteria. A scholarship can highly impact my education life. The money from scholarship will greatly help me be more selective in how I spent much of my free time. I will be able to maximize my college experience through volunteer opportunities, service-learning, and internships.
I plan to use child welfare/Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Work concepts to ensure that mentally ill people get the care they need and help make sure that the needs of children are met. Apart from being important in the future as a social worker, completing my degree will enable me to develop the required learning skills to collect data/information and understand how it links together.
