Personal Experience
My medical adventure was one of the failures and triumphs that are in the medical professional. I learned several things from experience both as a medical student and as a patient. The concepts that I can relate to in my experience fits the doctor-patient relationship.
My Liver Function Tests (LFTs), as well as INR, were rising, and if I never met a GI doctor, I would not have lived to this day. He only knew me from the looking at the laboratory data along with trends which signified my liver was failing. The doctor called me from a cell and later admitted me.
I have been having many medical experts trivializing the fight I was putting up for my own life. At one point, the doctor attributed my issues to excessive drinking to cover up for his errors. In this case, the doctor did not demonstrate empathy which would have been essential in helping the physician understand my needs as well as symptomatic experiences. The doctor-patient relationship was not healthy.
I have also seen the beauty that comes with the medicine. One of the nurses that were in charge called Ashely would bath me as I laid there without any hope of making through the situation. The relationship between the doctor and patient is one where the physician has effective communication skill. She would talk to me about the ongoing sports, the various shows that I liked to watch and also talked about the medical adventure she had gone through herself. The outcome here was improved emotional conditions for the client or patient, which was me. The respect and also compassion which I got from the professionals reminded of the humanity which we possess both as physicians and as patients.
