Personal Perceptive of Internet Openness
Introduction
The internet is referred to us as the “net.” It is a globally used computer system that connects users and can enable them to acquire information from other computers should they have permission to, and sometimes officiate direct communication. It involves the linkage of global exchanges that are; academic, private, business, and regulatory networks. These networks are connected by channeled, wireless, and fiber- optic skills and technologies. The internet can also be defined as a global communicative system that includes hardware and infrastructure. More often, the word web is used to mean the internet, but the web is one of the services rendered by the internet. Today the internet has evolved that even smartphones can access the internet. People can use their phones to access it as long as the phones have data or are WIFI friendly. This writing aims to find, from a personal perspective, whether the current internet environment is maximally open for use by all its end users, what are the limitations for this openness and to find out the most affected group.
Many people in the world use the internet for work, finding information, and linking with other people. Internet openness exists but, in different degrees, extents in various dimensions which include, technical concerns such as legal environments and procedures, market conditions, human rights, and governance. Some of the elements for the internet openness include respect for human rights, for example, freedom of expression, freedom to associate privacy such as internet prompting a pop up of the use of cookies, and the use of an incognito window.
Some of the limitations of the internet openness include the empowerment of end-users to control their private and personal data used online and the control of the information they receive online. The extent to which internet users can control the usage of their data is unknown. Businesses and governments allow their customers and employees to upload their data online. Sometimes end-users may not be able to control and protect children from internet content that is harmful to their upbringing. Materials such as pornography sites are readily available for anybody, including children with internet access. I believe that “the internet openness is harmful to children because restrictions to such sites as pornographic sites do not have restrictions and children can easily access them.” Another limitation of internet openness is its exposure to online fraud, extortion, theft, denial of service attacks, and intellectual intrusions. Digital security is not available for its end users. Hackers and fraudsters can hack and extort critical personal data and use it to extort money or blackmail the targeted individuals. Internet openness should impose rules and regulations to protect information from third party users because data that flows through the internet, such as credit card numbers, trade secrets, photos, private conversations, and bank account information’s may be accessed by hackers. Prevention of the leakage of such personal information, the internet should impose restrictions such as privacy rights for access information that do not belong to you.
Another significant risk of internet openness is the risk of the considerable principle of conflicts of laws and authorized influence for the borderless internet. For instance, in the investigation of accidents and the application of consents may be difficult because the administrative law is regional and territorial contrary to the internet. These problems may spread vastly in such areas as data protection, civil law, taxation, criminal law, and public law. An additional risk for the internet is the conflict that might arise in business arrangements. Because laws and regulations are territorial, and internet openness has led to increased inter-border trade relations. However, the probable uncertainty of laws and rules for which to apply has continued to pose a threat to cross border trades. Moreover, the study of internet openness is a difficulty because of the extent to which transparency measures are still unknown. Thus, it is more challenging to find out and quantify the areas of trade, social well-being, and economic growth is affected.
The governance of internet openness is governed by the “Internet Governance Forum- A body that was formed by the United Nations (UN) through a world summit of the information society. The organization ensures the all rights governing social, economic, and political issues in regards to the usage of the internet are well safeguard and respected. The main impact of the governing body is that it is ensuring that there exists a secure and stable internet. Another institution that handles aspects of the web the Engineering Internet Task Force (EIGF). It is an informal body that manages and oversees the standard development process of the internet. The major impacts of Internet governance include, it increases the chances of procuring more internet benefits such as economic growth innovations. If the internet is open, global markets will flourish and increase the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) for continents and countries. The magnitudes of openness range in between; technical global aspects, human rights, markets conditions and governance, policies and regulations. Thus Internet openness significantly improves international trade.
There is need for the internet to advance on bettering its data and doing a more in-depth analysis of its policies. More so, there is a need to focus on measuring global data that links the internet to international trade markets, macroeconomics, performance, and human innovation rights and social well-being. The internet can enable innovation and entrepreneurship. However, for a flourished economy and the success of entrepreneurs, they require openness of the internet. Entrepreneurs depend on the internet for useful information in support of knowledge and innovation skills. Therefore the internet is a platform by which entrepreneurs make and commercialize ideas and enable new podiums for new businesses to find new concepts. Thus, internet openness is paramount in the field of business and trade.
The relevance of this course has enabled me to understand more about the internet. The internet is next to the platform that has made work more accessible. Through such platforms such as Skype, Facebook, Google, people can communicate freely and reach globally with reduced costs. More entertainments through Netflix, YouTube are readily available for business and social deals. The internet has shifted in the past years and has impacted the society significantly. We can agree that it has the most potent platform media at present. It is where every new technology is launched, and it had proved to be the best place for business growth. However, users are required to handle the internet as sometimes it may not be able to secure their data.
Conclusion
The internet is a strength of all digital market economies. Its openness is, however, by default, and measures for its quantifiable variables are still a misery. The internet openness faces different limitations, some of which are regards to access by third parties of private information to restrictions of law enforcements between cross-border partnerships business. Jurisdiction is territorially managed, but the internet is not, and this may affect and cause conflicts in cross border businesses. The internet is used in various ways, to communicate, search for information, and eased modes of communication— for example, Skype for video calling.
