Personal Philosophy for Adolescent Setting

My primary objective as a teacher is to help my students enjoy learning, practising, and becoming. I intend to design a productive, safe, reflective, and neutral classroom. I will also motivate my students to work as a team and think critically. More importantly, it is to ensure diversity in my classroom. Diversity is attained when a place has variety in the form of values, personality, caste, gender, and race among others (NDT Resource Center, n.d). In many cases, such a classroom is evaded when some children are discriminated because of their racial and personality differences. I believe it is important to value all the students’ difference and embrace their diversity, mindset, skills, and identity. I want to encourage a learning environment that accommodates all students regardless of their differences. To attain this philosophy, I will create a sense of community among my adolescent students. I will ensure diversity by using different materials such as videos, worksheets, technology, first-hand interviews, books, and media among others. It is also important to acknowledge that each student has different learning styles. Therefore, it is imperative to validate each student’s weaknesses and strengths while making them feel comfortable even when they make mistakes. A confident adolescent is more productive in class than a shy student is.

Supporting gender roles is also critical in my teaching philosophy. In my role as a teacher, it is critical to reduce gender bias in the classroom and allow them to learn in their way. All children, whether male or female should have an equal chance to participate in all classroom activities including observations and discussions. I will adopt a neutral teaching mechanism, which creates an equal learning setting for each adolescent students. Additionally, I will provide a neutral and safe environment that gives students to express their emotions and thoughts. As cited by Alber (2017), tutors need to develop strategies that enable them to change and reflect on biased practices. It is also essential to combat gender bias contained in educational materials. This signifies that materials that discriminate against one gender should not be used in the classroom. In my classroom, I will let every student know of their importance regardless of their gender.
