Personal statement to apply for Baruch for digital marketing
Peter drunker stated that “Business has only two functions- marketing and innovation.” The quotes emphasize the role marketing plays in business, especially in the fashion design career. Marketing has so much power that it can divert customers’ perception towards a brand without them being aware. I have a lot of interest and attraction in digital marketing because it is like a combination of art, originality, personal traits, visions, and cleverness. The curiosity for digital marketing started in 2017 when I was at the University of Hong Kong to study new media and social media during the summer program. Since then, my passion for learning more about digital marketing has been developing each day, and I have tried to explore its nature deeply.
I have a bachelor of fine arts, fashion design, parsons the new school of design, New York. The bachelor’s degree equipped me with good design skills in marketing and the fashion industry. I have a strong ambition and drive for freedom and entrepreneurial characteristics to bring the knowledge of attractive design in marketing. Strategies of design such as styling, which draws the attention of potential customers, provide symbolic meanings, and enable people to recognize the products are essential in successful digital marketing1. The visual element in the packaging of an item is also important because it ensures that the package plays an essential role as a tool for marketing. Successful marketing, especially in the fashion sector, is also propelled by the excellent quality of the products and creative designs2. Therefore, marketing and design are interconnected. My design background has played an essential role in learning more about digital marketing and offered me successful marketing skills.
In August 2017, I enrolled in a summer program at the University of Hong Kong, where I learned about new media and social media as marketing tools. The program played an important role in enlightening me more about how social media and new media have changed the marketing world. The new media platforms involve content marketing, display advertising, and social media promotions3. I learned how to promote brands and sell products using these channels and using the advantage of an online community to engage with potential and current customers about various issues that relate to the products4. After school, I worked as a marketing intern in Coedition. I collaborated with the digital marketing team, retail, and visual merchandising team to ensure that all the marketing campaigns were carried out according to the established strategies. During my internship, I learned how a business attracts customers, increases revenue, and distributes its products.
I later worked as a digital marketing consultant for Emilie Heathe, where I learned how to increase customer awareness and employ inbound marketing techniques such as SEO, content strategy, and SEM. I am currently working as an account specialist and marketer for Omnyway. I have learned how to collaborate with stakeholders, associates, employees, and customers to increase sales and customer base.
In the modern era, the power of online marketing has become irreplaceable, and it has completely changed the way sellers and customers communicate. Through that consideration, I chose to pursue a digital marketing program at Baruch University, and I believe it will help me a lot in advancing my future career. Baruch University is a prominent university that delivers quality education, and I am grateful for this opportunity. To fulfill my ambitions, I am willing to commit my finances and time to achieve my dreams.
Technology that may impact my future carrier
The technology that may impact my future carrier in digital marketing is Python. I want to learn how to code using Python successfully because it can be used as a general-purpose language, which can be used to develop desktop and web design. With such versatility, Python has become one of the fastest-growing languages around the globe. A python is also an essential tool for data analysts because it has many benefits compared to other languages.
I want to learn Python because it’s flexible. If I need to script something that has never been done before, the language efficiently serves this purpose. If I need to script a new app or website for my fashion company, I will not struggle. The language is also easy to learn because the developers ensured that the language is simple and readable5. It offers the user the advantage of using a few code lines than needed to accomplish a similar task in an older language6. The language is a free source and uses a community-based development model. Libraries in Python include machine learning, data manipulation, and natural language processing, among others7. The language is well supported, and in case I encounter some problems while using it to consult people in the academic and industrial sectors who have used the language extensively.
I will use the Python language in simplifying and automating some complex marketing tasks. The language can be used for the automation of data collection. Marketers must generate big file data from multiple sources for analysis and processing8. Automation makes it easy for the company to adjust the prices accordingly, collect data from email and SMS, and gather data from surveys. Automation of repetitive data formatting, customizing error checking, data mining processes, and massive file operations are made possible by Python.
