The United States of America is presently different from what it had been over the previous years. Similar to other nations in the world, the U.S. had been experiencing its glitches and problems. However, the efforts of some people, initiatives, and strategic solutions alleviated it from a colony to become a world leader and a Super Power. Great Britain colonized America, but Americans were relieved from aristocracy and monarchy through the effort of revolutionists. Had it not the American Revolutionists, the modern U.S. could not be having the global influence that it enjoys today including civil rights activism. As such, this paper has identified Martin Luther King Jr. to prove the way American revolutionists changed Americans to the current state of being a global leader.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister, and a civil activist who played a key role in civil rights struggle between the 1950s to 1960s. King worked day and night in the struggle for human rights and equality for African Americans who were disadvantaged in the society regarding economic stability and injustices through peaceful demonstrations (Darling-Hammond, 2015). He was assassinated in 1968 for his stance against social injustices and discrimination on the Blacks. For example, King was a driving force for landmark events such as 1963 March in Washington and Montgomery Bus Boycott that led to the legislation of the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts (Pettit & Sykes, 2015).
The recognition of Luther King in 1964 Nobel Peace Prize showed that such leaders should be enumerated not only in American Society but also the entire world. Even though Martin Luther King Jr. led the revolutions that sought equality and rights for Black Americans, it was against the will of the Whites as illustrated by Dorrien (2018). However, it was later found that King and his counterparts had fortunes for American society. To confirm the goodness of the King’s revolutionary actions, the U.S. set the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as the federal holiday in 1986 to be remembered annually (Weiss, 2017).
In conclusion, American revolutionists such as Martin Luther King, Jr. should be remembered, recognized, and enumerated globally because of their societal inspirations. It is apparent that the revolutionists sacrificed their lives and properties to change the society. Luther led the activism struggle that led to the enaction of Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act before his assassination in 1968. Even though not all people were happy for his actions, King was able to change the American society. Therefore, King and other revolutionists should be admirable globally as they worked for the wellness of the nation.
