Physical education
Physical education classes in a school provide students with the opportunity to engage in physical activities and recommend that children get to be vigorously active for at least half the lesson. Physical education provides learners with the opportunity to learn more physical movements and also have the opportunity to engage in more physical activities. Institutions have shifted their focus from teaching health and hygiene education to teaching them about the benefits of physical training, which include sports and exercise (Gong 2019). This paper will discuss the role of physical education classes in colleges.
Physical education is in various forms and structures where instructions are issued in the different models that are in the curriculum, which are movement, sports, and fitness education (Lopatiev et al. 2017). Physical education has two apparent perspectives such that programs, where physical education is adopted effectively, increase in-class physical activities, and secondly, physical activities are the basis for students’ knowledge that the lesson is for them to learn.
Movement education is supposed to apply the four-movement concepts; the body which represents the instrument of action, space where the body will move, an effort which is the quality in which movement is practiced and finally the relationship which is the connection with the object—people and the environment that occurs during body movement (Stolz & Thorburn 2017). Movement concept is usually in three main learning domains, which are cognitive, psychomotor, and practical. Sport education is a prevalent physical education model to educate students in becoming players and also helps them in developing as competent, literate, and enthusiastic sportsperson. Sports education has a unique structure for the sports season, which helps in planning and teaching the instructional units. Fitness education emphasizes teaching the students the need to lead a physically fit life.
What is the role of physical education in Every Student?
Physical education creates awareness in students on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and thus offering a lot of benefits to the students (Richards & Gaudreault 2016). Ways in which physical education help in the improvement of a student’s life are such as; it enhances the physical fitness of the students since it’s a key component into leading a healthy lifestyle by maintaining fitness, there is improved nutrients absorption in their bodies, improved cardiovascular health and also helps in the development of muscles. Inactive life can easily lead to heart complications. Secondly, physical education helps in improving the academic performance of the students since they enhance higher levels of concentration in students and also make students be well composed during class time. Thirdly, physical education enhances social assimilation by improving the interaction between the students. Students learn how to cooperate in their various group activities and also have the opportunity to play the different leadership roles hence developing leadership skills.
Physical education also helps in reducing the level of stress, which may arise from the pressure to perform better in other subjects. Homework also plays a role in stressing the students because they will have no time to engage in play at home. Due to this, physical education helps in managing the stress and anxiety that the students might be undergoing. Physical literacy also helps the students to focus on their studies. Failure to take a break from the usual routine makes it hard for a student to focus; this also applies in places of work. Student’s engagement in physical education helps them burn calories, which reduces their attention in class and also causes fidgeting in students.
Another benefit of physical education is that students learn the importance of working out by observing others; a role model helps the students to carry on with exercises, and through such ways, they quickly learn about the various activities that they can enjoy. Physical education also helps with health and nutrition. Eating disorders and obesity may arise when students fail to engage in physical activities. Students are also able to understand the importance of observing their diet and also following the various nutritional guidelines. Physical education also helps to instill positive behavior in students because they have the opportunity to work as a team; their peers also ask questions, and even students are taught to be responsible for their actions. Idleness quickly leads students to engage in some ill behavior such as drug abuse, and thus sports activities become a supplement by participating students when they are in school.
Conclusion
Physical education helps in the development of a student’s life, and therefore it is important to include physical education in the school’s curriculum. Physical education instructors should consider various factors while developing sports activities for the students and also be in a position to guide the students through the exercises.
