Pollution as a Global Societal Problem
Although pollution is a side effect of industrial evolution, it qualifies to be classified as a Global Social problem. The term Global problem refers to environmental problems that occur due to daily activities carried out by humans. It has come to our attention that the various measures to prevent or minimize pollution have failed over the years. However, as the human population increases, the future environmental support is decreasing with a significant rate. This view is evident form various observations like marine and Air pollution. These two popular types of pollutions observed to cause a rapid negative change in the environment. Nevertheless, a positive environmental improvement from pollution has been observed in some coultries. The improvement is due to the current lockdown from various countries such as America in an attempt of containment of Covid-19. Therefore, this paper discuses the origin of air pollution and suggestions solutions that can help minimize pollution.
The term pollution resulted from a combination of two latin words namely, Pollure and Pollutio. It refers to the injection of ny kind of harmful substance to the environment. Pollution resulted from the creativity of humanity towards development. Lack of proper knowledge led humans to contaminated the various water sources. As a result, some useful rivers were greatly affected and turned in to sewage. The beneficiaries of these rivers were affected by diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and other health problems. At some point, pollution disseases started killing humans, aquatic life, and both domestic and wild animals. Also, the lakes, oceans, and seas were affected by contaminated water from their various water inlets like rives. Eventualy, pollution became a global social problem as it spread in every part of the world. However, some people do not believe that water pollution was the first to be discovered amog the several types of pollution.
Moreover, pollution was discovered around the year 1480 from the Quelccaya cores evidence. The support for this case was from the traces of bismuth produced by Inca metallurgy to the atmosphere. Since then, pollution is believed to expanded and classifiend into various types of pollution such as air pollution and marine pollution. Today, humans are still the main cause of pollution but they are believed to be eloquent to minimize it. In every activity performed by humans, there is a high possibility of enhancing pollution. Industries are created and runed by humans emit dangerous gases to the air that causes air pollution. Some of the various chemical waste discharged carelessly from people and industries result into water pollution when they get into rivers and water bodies. Air and water pollution are the most common and more effective compared to other types in the modern world. Implimentation of new stratergies to restrict the evolution of pollution can help to minimize future polllution. Failure of pollution prevention is likely to limit the life span of plants and animals in the future.
Marine pollution
It is a type of pollution that arises due to contamination of the water bodies. It should be seriously reviewed since life depends on water. It causes water born diseases and death of auatic life. It is caused by injection of pollutants from Industries, ships and humans waste into water. Marine pollution is common in most rivers, lakes, and other water bodies near human setlements. However some rivers far from these setlements are naturaly pure and safe to use. Shuch rivers exist in the forest like Amazon forest. Therefore, encouranging people to settle far from rivers and lakes is a crucial step to reducing pollution. Also, the government policy on pollution is not stratergically enough to stop ships from water pollution.
Government Checkpoints for oil spilage should be introduced at the sea port and also in some lakes. In addition, the water vesels should be repaired frequently and contain litter bins in every places that humans can acces. The establishment of marine anti-pollution works will assist the containment of water pollution by removing separable pollutants from water sources and protecting them. Cureently, there is minimal pollution in the water bodies since most humans are limited to movement like sea transport due to the Containment policies of Corona virus.
Air pollution
Air pollution is the most dangerous type of pollution. It is mainly caused by dangerous gases from industries, vehicles, ships, and other machinaries emition into the air. Such gases include nitrogen, sulfur, carbon and their respective oxides. Although some of these gases like carbon dioxide occur naturally, Most of them are emited form the burning of fossil fuels. Examples of fosil fuels thar are used worldwide are inclusive of oil, coal, and natural gas. An increase in population causes an increase in fosils consumption to meet the daily demands of human beings. Increased consumpltion and emission may lead to severe damage to the ozone layers, trees, and crops. Crops can be destroyed by acidic rains that is formed from a mixture of toxic gases and rain dromplets in the atmosphere.
Weakening or destroying the ozone layer will increase the ultraviolet radiation onto earth. Such a situation increases global warming and reduces the chances of plants and animals survival. The situation may also start a bushfire that will endanger the lives of wild animals and damage the tourism industry. The Australian bushfire is a perfect example that resulted from ignition of certain trees from direct sunlight. On the otherhand, Humans relie on industrial products in todays life. Development is encouraged for the economy to thrive. Therefore, Implementation of favourable statergies, to favour both development and the environment, is necessary for a brighter future. Recycling devices should be installed in viehicles, industries, ships and any other pulutant objects for the ambsorption of toxic gases. This improvisation should be attached to the chimneys where there is much smoke emission to absorb and convert it into usefull substances. A limitation to air pollution may helps resolve polution as one of the gloarly challenges.
Conclusion
This paper discuses about pollution which is one of the global societal problems. Two tupes of pollution are observed affect the plants and animals. It focuses on the developmental side effects from industries that have enhanced air and water pollution. Also, limitation of human activities due to the Covid-19 has a positive effect to polution control. Pollution control policies should be revisited and adjusted to resolve the modern societal problems. Human setlements near useful rivers and water bodies should be discouraged to prevent water pollution. Also, improvisation of viehicles, sea ports, ships, industries, and othe fosil fuel consumer to minimize toxic fumes will increase the chances of life for the future. Therefore, pollution is a Global Societal problem that can be controlled while the country continues to industrialize.
