In this post, the author argues that during the development of a business strategy, business leaders must consider their internal environment, which includes the tangible and intangible resources and the company culture, as these are sources of decision models and organization power. He relies on Gamble et al. (2019) and Krogerus and Tschappeler’s (2018) research to prove that the several elements of the organization’s internal environment can significantly affect the company’s sources of weakness or power. He notes that the treatment and culture of the employee can affect the performance of a business. The culture of the company, on the other hand, may have a significant influence on the businesses’ competitive advantage, which is achieved via the value of intellectual and human capital within the firm.
The author’s argument that the internal environment, employees are a source of organizational power and decision models is entirely accurate, and I find no choice but to agree with him. I can trace where the author is coming from based on my own experiences. I have literally seen employees who influence the firm’s events even more than the management itself. In his paper ”politics and sources of power in organizations”, Mann (2014) notes that typically events around the firm and the internal environment impact the company’s performance. Some individual employees or groups have much more influence over an organization’s internal environmental factors and events. This may be a source of power within the firm. Finance and Marketing managers may control the essential internal ecological facets. Therefore, employees play a significant role in strategic management. Hitt et al. 2016 point out that the personal sources of an organization’s power are much more greatly related to employees’ jobs, satisfaction, job performance, and organizational commitment. Therefore a company that maintains a good culture that creates a place where the staff trust their leaders and enjoy comradely with others is likely to encounter numerous opportunities for creativity and innovation.
