As a presenter, the most crucial aspect of giving a speech is how much attention they can receive from the audience. There is some medical news that absolutely no one is prepared to hear which, in my case, happens to be very accurate. Relating that to a real-life situation of being diagnosed with cancer makes the presenter has mastered the skill of storytelling which is a strength in making presentations.

Another strength seen from the presentation is the ability to create humour within the story in a charming way. As the presenter goes on with her duty, we can notice that she can exceptionally manage her emotions and does not allow them to overwhelm her. Having controlled her emotions entirely signifies the fact that she was able to conquer the illness. The delivery of the speech by using various methods like body language and pauses help capture more attention and becomes another strength of the presentation.

The presentation, however, has some minimal weaknesses that can be noticed. One of the failings noticed in her public speaking methods is the forth and back movements. The movements of the speaker need to create meaning as the audience listens to her. Every move the speaker makes should be planned well so as not to shift the focus of the audience to the movements. The gesturing also needs to be in synchronization with the speech. The speaker of the speech is a lady aged, married to her high school sweetheart and have a kid with a medium height. She goes by the name, Kate Bowler. Her story speaks volumes about the lies she has known as seen from the chosen title of the speech with the ability to grasp one’s attention and is titled “Everything happens for a reason-and other lies I’ve loved”. Starting the presentation by stating facts that exist in real life is one of the essential ways of getting the attention of the audience. The purpose of the speech is to make the audience understand that some of the phrases are lies that people accept in their lives and are just mere fallacies. The introduction starts by stating that some medical news that no one is prepared to hear in their lives as she wasn’t. This introduction shows how life has been and the dreams achieved in her life and the diagnosis of cancer. In the body of the speech, the stories include the prosperity’s gospel that will state that God will reward the believer with the right kind of faith. Being a historian, the speaker had believed so much that good things happen to good people. A decade in her life was spent in interviewing televangelists for divine money, and megachurch pastors about how they lived there best live in the moment.

Americans believe in a gospel of optimism, as seen in their proof. Living in the current culture, it becomes challenging to fall into the trap of thinking that virtue and success go hand in hand. Anything that had been good about her life couldn’t save her despite her belief in the prosperity gospel. The husband acknowledges the fact that everything happens for a reason but knowing the reason why would be much better. We all want reasons and formulas as to why things happen. Living with stage IV cancer makes her realize that there is no natural correlation between length of her life and how much she tries. She has experienced trauma and pain that she could ever think she could manage.

In the conclusion of her speech, she recognizes the emotions of love that she got. She agrees with the fact that life is so beautiful but so hard as well. Learning to live and to love without counting the costs, without reasons and reassurances has been her desire. Life can break your heart and might take everything you have and hope for. But even in darkness, there will be beauty and love, and now and then, it will feel than more enough. The technique used to grab the attention of the audience is through storytelling from the beginning to the end. Since the speech refers to her personal life, use of testimonies has been well captured in the story. Statistics have not been included as they were irrelevant to her own life. Use of oral citations during questioning is perfect in some of the great sayings like the need to know the reason why everything happens for a reason. Giving testimonies works perfectly in keeping the attention of the audience. In my opinion, a rating of 4.8 would be excellent for the speech. The score is due to the ability to give a captivating story about her life experience and proper management of emotions.
