President Trump Tries to Reshape American Immigration Policy
President Trump and his administration have tried so much to tighten the measures concerning immigration policies. They have pushed to change the approach of the nation regarding immigration. In Trump’s meeting with the congregational leadership regarding border security, he says that there are so many illegal immigrants who try to enter the country. Because there is no space to hold them, he further adds that they must return to their home countries. Trump says that Immigrants bring illegal drugs like cocaine in the country, and they also lead to the strain of public resources. Hence the border should be secured.
The administration has a policy dated October 08, 2017, on immigration priorities. The administration shows readiness to work with Congress to ensure that the country is secure, and all its residents are protected. The plan to building a border at the South to close the loopholes for unlawful immigration is ideal for implementing the policy.
In the analysis, the merit-based immigration system published on August 03, 2017, Trump proposes that immigration can be on merit base where highly skilled immigrants will have priority to enter the country. The current migration has forced the American employees to lower salaries and prevented assimilation. Therefore, using a merit-based immigration system will reduce the rates of immigration into the nation. Another method of restricting immigrants and only limit to young and high skilled people is by using a point system. However, the selected immigrants might end up getting jobs that are below their levels of education.
