Primary Objectives of Russian CYBINT Operations
CYBINT is the short form for Cyber Intelligence, responsible for identifying and preventing all the possible attacks on the cyberspace. The efforts are made before the damage can be extended to the country and the citizens altogether. CYBINT plays a critical role in protecting the country from possible attacks that can jeopardize internal peace. It seeks to ensure that the countries remain ahead of the possible attackers.
Russian CYBINT is responsible for monitoring all the suspicious activities that have the potential to result in virtual conflicts. The conflicts can lead to souring relations between Russia and other countries. The conflicts can jeopardize national security and break down the prevailing peaceful coexistence (Intelligence Community Assessment para 3). For example, individual players draw a significant level of interest from the engagement of two powerful countries. The approach increases the prevailing need for using the weapons in their hands. Cyberwar weapons, for instance, involves the use of hackers who seek to explore the loopholes existing in the cyber defense programs. Russia is one of the countries with a vibrant stockpile of nuclear warheads. The loss of the cyber defense to foreign attacks can jeopardize the capability of Russia to defend itself. Russian CYBINT seeks to maintain security against the possibility of similar attacks.
The Russian Cyberspace faces threats from within the country itself. It seeks to enhance internal security concerning the cyberspace. The attackers can also work towards using the prevailing loopholes for their purposes (Gastaldo para 6). The organization seeks to prevent the emergence of such attacks. An example can be the capacity for defaming the political parties and other political players. The motive behind such actions is to manipulate the prevailing government systems. Similar cases have been reported in other soviet countries such as Georgia. Russian CYBINT seeks to prevent similar future attacks.
