Professional and personal characteristics of my teacher
A good teacher should make positive impacts on students’ both academic life and long-term success. Teachers play a significant part in influencing students’ classroom performance compared to other factors such as school facilities and resources. Based on the analysis of the professional and personal characteristics, teacher Leela is a quality teacher.
One of the professional characteristics that make teacher Leela a good teacher is her practical communication skills. Through her effective communication skills, students in her classroom have developed a positive attitude towards her lessons and the concepts he teachers. In the beginning, some students come to her class, feeling afraid and discouraged because of their past experiences in classrooms. However, with her strong communication skills, the teacher influences students to develop a positive attitude by overcoming their fears. Among the communication skills portrayed by the teachers includes effective listening skills. Teacher Leela gives the student the time to express their concerns in class. This has influenced the performance of students in class because it enables students to understand the concepts she teachers in class. Through listening, the teacher gets to understand the students better.
The other professional characteristics portrayed by the teacher in class is that she is knowledgeable about the concepts she teaches in class. She shows a great understanding by explaining and articulating the ideas comprehensively. Through her knowledge, she is always able to engage students and to judge whether or not the students need assistance in certain areas. This makes the student appear very competent in class. This is also showed through her level of preparedness on answering questions from students. The third professional skills seen in the teacher is his ability to engage students in the class. Her class is always interacting since she does not just talk alone in class. She engages students by asking questions and encouraging them to participate in classroom discussions.
The teacher’s persona characteristics also make her a good teacher. Among the personal characteristic of the teacher is that she treats her students fairly in class. This is among the factors that make her students develop confidence and feel safe in class. Unfair treatment of students in the class can negatively affect students’ confidence and performance in the classroom. With her fair treatment, the teacher manages to create a positive atmosphere in class. The other personal characteristic that makes the teacher, a performer, is her great sense of humor. She creates a sense of humor is to reduce tension in class. She usually does this dispel awkward or unfavorable situations in class. For instance, when teaching hard concepts in class, she uses humor to encourage the students to remember the difficult concepts. Her great sense of humor makes her lessons enjoyable, making many students look forward to it. This is because, through her sense of humor, the teacher always manages to make her classes not only enjoyable but also to raise the morale and enthusiasm of students. The third personal characteristic demonstrated in class by the teacher is her respectfulness. This is showed through how she handles all students in the class. For instance, she is usually sensitive to students’ needs and feelings whenever she interacts with them in class. She also respects the privacy of her students. For instance, whenever a student has a sensitive issue, she always speaks to them individually to avoid embarrassing them in class. By showing respect to her students, the teacher has managed to gain respect from her students in return.
