Professional speaking is a quintessential skill
Introduction (100 words)
Professional speaking is a quintessential skill for every nursing professional. The ability to communicate effectively to all cadres of the audience provides nurses with a robust tool for presenting findings and evidence-based interventions. Professional presentations are critical for organizing and disseminating information to stakeholders. However, most nurses have limited skills and experience required to design and optimize the effectiveness of professional presentations in influencing health care.
As intimated above, professional presentations have been crucial in communicating the clinical problem addressed in the capstone change project, the strategies used to formulate the proposed nursing intervention, and the envisaged implementation plan. My firsthand experience with professional presentations generated mixed results; some highlighted my official communication skills, whereas others exposed my weaknesses. One of the main areas that I exhibited exemplary performance was in the design of the slides and the organization of information. The feel and look of the presentations exuded high-level professionalism, confidence, and attention to detail. On the downside, my struggle with stage flight interfered with my public speaking skills and subsequently, the communication of my thoughts and ideas on the best method to handle the prevalence of type diabetes in Harvey’s black community.
Though I exhibited strong skills in the presentations’ design and organization, additional efforts are required to enhance my expertise in communicating to a wide range of audiences. The goal will be achieved by regularly practicing with different presentation designs and participating in online forums focusing on the design and layout of professional presentations to share experiences and learn. On the other hand, I will address the issue of stage flight by ensuring I have a clear grasp of the information to be presented and holding several mock presentations to prepare myself psychologically.
