The choice of March Construction and Consulting to implement was finally justified at the end of the project as the cost of the project came out as 75% of the estimated value. Their experience in construction gave us excellent finishes, and the completion of the project was within schedule. Despite the dynamic nature of the construction industry, the company was on hand to give the required technical advice right from the design up to the implementation phase, and this was evident upon the implementation of the project from the savings gained.
As learned during the course, we established that contractor was well aware of the cycles involved in construction, which is the concept, feasibility, design procurement, and development. The contractor was able to table his estimates for the whole project was way below our estimates. Secondly, because the project was supposed to be partially funded by a loan facility and partly using cash, they were able to link us with the right loan facility bank. It is the same contractors who also facilitated the process of the meeting of architects to bring the inputs of all the three parties to involve. As indicated in the course, a project needs to go through, designing, and engineering works begin upon the meeting of the three parties.
This has, however, has not been without challenges. In our planning, we left out measures we would employ to curb environmental pollution, and this put the project on hold until such a plan was put in place. Secondly, protective gears were available, but only dust masks had been budgeted for only to realize that ear masks were required to deal with noise from vibrations and noise from compaction. This was all corrected within a reasonable time, and the construction operations went on smoothly until completion.
In the future, we would look at expanding the project through the installation of a security system and excellent coverage of the internet. The security system will entail CCTV cameras for surveillance and recording of arriving cargo as well as for security surveillance. This is in an attempt to have the operations of the warehouse well synchronized and efficient while remaining secure. That project will also include connection of the premises with high-speed internet to facilitate paperless transactions in the spirit of embracing technology while ensuring efficiency. Finally, we shall look into a landscaping program around the building by planting trees and grass around it, putting up shades and installation of a small recreation park for workers.
