Project management
Project management involves planning, controlling, organization, and securing resources to attain specified goals. Project management is essential in academic and research purposes for developing products and solutions that enable a company to be successful. Data presentation for interpretation is vital in project management as it simplifies complex work in a more understandable form. This article aims to explain the pros and cons of various sources of information.
The chart gets majorly used for a work presentation. Charts mostly used include pie charts, line charts, and bar graphs. Charts provide visual interest to the audience as they provide a quick and direct way of proving information. Charts also summarize the key findings of data collected from research. Charts can also show data comparisons hence fast analysis and understanding. For instance, a pie chart can display the amount of work done and the percentage of a project’s remaining work in portions. However, charts do not provide accurate information. For instance, a bar graph can show one category exceeding the other but does not show the exact amount compared to raw data. Charts can also oversimplify a task making it less meaningful. For example, a chart can miss out on various essential features of the data hence making data lack emphasis (Campbell, 2018).
Written reports provide information from the sender to the receiver on the requirements of a given project. Written reports enable the receiver to pinpoint the relevant information concerning the topic of discussion. The client has time to review the statement in case one area is not clear. For example, if a client wants a project to get done in a specific way, one must write down as oral form can easily get forgotten. However, there is no immediate feedback in case of clarifications. Lack of personal contact can create issues when the project gets done.
Firsthand information is crucial as it provides validity for proposed theories, more insight on research, and practical and speculation advantage of data collection. For instance, if one gets given an assignment of a project quality survey, one can come up with real results on whether the proposed theories worked and give advice on corrections to get done. However, firsthand information can be prone to bias and depends on the researcher’s skills on the given topic. More time and resources are also spent (MBA Official, n.d.).
Conclusion
In conclusion, various sources of information have their advantages and disadvantages. The researcher has to be keen on the selection criteria of the origins of data collection and representation to use to produce quality work.
