Project schedule planning in management
Project schedule planning
Project schedule planning is essential in management because it presents different procedures used by businesses to develop project schedules. From a project management point of view, project schedule planning refers to the mechanism used to communicate relevant information on activities required to be completed in a given time (Watt, 2014). Thus, organizations allocate various resources to ensure the project is completed in the appropriate period. In other words, a project schedule involves documenting all the activities need to deliver a project in the appropriate time frame. Therefore, the core purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the most essential terms, methods, and concepts regarding project schedule planning as presented in chapter 10.
Several concepts, methods, and terms are considered essential as far as are project scheduling process is concerned. They include critical path, network diagram, sequence activities, and Gantt chart. Typically, the milestone is used as a marker in a project that describes each stage in the project scheduling process. Mainly. Milestones are used to show the critical stage in a project plan. Sequence activities refer to the process used to identify and document correlation among different activities in a project (Watt, 2014). Gantt chart refers to a bar chart used in project management to illustrate the schedule of a project. A network diagram is a graphical approach that presents the schedule of the project. Lastly, a critical path method is a simple algorithm that schedules different activities in a project.
In the case study of Susan and Steve is a perfect example of how the project scheduling process can be used in project management to increase efficiency and smooth flow of activities. In that regard, the terms, concepts, and methods defined in this paper can be used to demonstrate how Steven and Susan can have a perfect wedding based on the viability of different approached used in the project scheduling process. First, it is important for Susan and Steven to use milestones in their project.
Mainly, using milestones in this project will be important because they demonstrate the key event and map forward movement in a project plan (Watt, 2014). At their wedding, Susan and Stephen will use the milestone to set up activities such as sending invitation cards, booking the location, finalizing the menu, and fitting of dresses from bridesmaids. Thus, milestones will ensure everything stays on track. The use of sequence activities in a project is important because the set the logical requirements in a project, thereby promoting efficiency in a project-based on all project constraints.
In a wedding between Steve and Susan, sequencing activities were used to ensure each activity is carried out in the required timeframe. Thus, sequencing activities are essential in project planning because they enhance the smooth flow of activities to prevent two events from crashing. Gantt chart is important in project planning because it is applied in assessing the time taken to complete a project. Thus, I can use the Gantt chart method to determine which resources should be added in a project to avoid delays in completing the project (Watt, 2014). More significantly, a network diagram is important in a project because it allows people to monitor and track the project from the beginning to the end. It ensures all the necessary adjustments are made throughout the project. Overall, the critical path method is essential in project planning because it evaluates the shortest effective approach used to complete a project. I can use it to determine operational costs, timeframe, and resources needed to complete a project within the shortest time.
