Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is one of the leading cancer conditions in men. The cause of prostate cancer has been eloping researchers for a long time. Besides, the cure for prostate cancer has been hard to find due to unknown reasons for the cancerous cell multiplication. Recent research in the Boston University School of Medicine has, however, given some limelight on a specific protein that could be the solution for prostate cancer treatment. In the article, “Protein that hinders the advancement of prostate cancer identified,” researchers claim that a specific protein identified as BRD4 plays a crucial role in the multiplication of prostate cancer cells. The research targets men since prostate cancer affect the male gender. The protein BRD4 can, therefore, be blocked to manage the spread of prostate cancer cells and thus obtaining a solution to the cancer menace. The protein blocking procedure is expected to remain active for an average of two to three years before any resistance is noticed. The claim behind the blocking of the BRD4 protein is that other ways of managing prostate cancer have been suffering resistance from cancerous cells hence rendering the treatment methods ineffective.
The resilience of castration-resistant prostate cancer gives medics headaches in trying to manage the condition. The primary method of dealing with prostate cancer is the use of androgen receptor signaling. However, Prostate cancer cells form a way of becoming resistant to the androgen receptor signaling. Therefore, managing diet to block the availability of BRD4 protein gives more hope towards overcoming the challenge of resistance. Besides, the findings in the article provide a more reliable alternative to the existing therapeutic options that are limited to suppressing the prostate cancer cells.
Lack of proper nutrition is one of the disasters facing humankind. The food available for intake has been taken through intensive processing procedures that affect the natural balance. Dieticians have been insisting on the importance of healthy diets for a long time (Turhan & Yasli, 2018). Also, the composition of nutrients in foodstuffs has been altered by processing leading to the presence of harmful food components. Some of the ingredients are responsible for cancerous cells in human bodies. Therefore, research that promises to address a cancerous issue by altering the movement of a particular protein in the body gives more hope. Besides, addressing the issue of harmful food components is similar to addressing the issue of cancer. Therefore, the findings from the research from the University of Boston are promising and reliable.
In reviewing the findings obtained, several issues have to be addressed. First, the results should be verified by considering functionality in a significantly large population sample. Second, the findings should be borrowed after thorough research to identify possible side effects. However, the analysis should not be left at the proposal stage since it promises a solution to a crucial issue. The findings should be incorporated in the medical sector to find a lasting solution to the prostate cancer issue.
In sum, the article, “Protein that hinders the advancement of prostate cancer identified” aims at providing an alternative method of managing prostate cancer. The claim behind the blocking of the BRD4 protein is that other ways of managing prostate cancer have been suffering resistance from cancerous cells hence rendering the treatment methods ineffective. Generally, the findings in the article should be incorporated in the medical sector to find a lasting solution to the prostate cancer issue.
