Psychological safety is vital

Psychological safety is vital yet fragile in every organization. It is the idea where the boss gives a conducive environment to the workers. Where the workers feel they may try anything new without facing a backlash if it goes sideways. Amy Edmondson put it in a refined way in one of her ted talks when she said, ’Psychological safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes.” The Google researchers during their studies likewise realized that the workers at Google headquarters were unlikely to leave the company if they have a pleasant working environment. Also, that team with that high psychological safety was likely to perform exceptionally well than others. When a company places a lot of rules, it limits creativity as trying something new that may fail is expected to cause a backlash. Revenue will likely soar as the effort put in place during the innovation is likely to multiply as there are no rules to hold a person back from change.

During their different studies, both Google and Amy realized the importance of giving the staff a free role, to take various risks at any time. The studies discovered that companies that had their team take risks and make many mistakes were more successful than a company that had its staff take zero risks. The studies proved that the critical factor in having a successful company or business to ensure that the environment put for the staff or workers is conducive. Another similarity that arose when comparing the two studies is that freedom of speech necessarily is very crucial in any organization. Some workplaces have stringent rules in that even the employees fear to air out their views. Since an employee doesn’t want to seem incompetent or ignorant, they tend to keep quiet and let the management talk without asking any question. Partly it’s the fault of the management who endeavor for maximum excellence and accountability without encouraging their workers to share their views by speaking up. While giving the freedom for them to speak up, even the company grows as more ideas and innovation will crop up for the betterment of the company.

Nurses are a very crucial factor when it comes to proper healthcare delivery. Without nurses, things will be very chaotic at the health facilities. It is, therefore, critical for nurses to possess the interpersonal skill and also effective communication. The shareholders in the health systems are consequently advised to ensure psychological safety for the nurses, Goldberg Sana recounts the importance of nurses explaining that it is the nurses who spend most of the time with the patients and have more face to face talks with the patients. Nurses interact much more with the patient even than the doctors. They tend to have all the information and even more with the patients. Some patients also have a heart to heart conversations with nurses.

In her ted talk ‘What If You Became a Nurse?”  Sana Goldberg gives advice on advocating for oneself and on how to provide the best possible care. At the same time, she underlines the importance of nurses how crucial they are.in the research on practical nursing communication skills, it underlies the importance of a nurse and goes ahead to explain the importance of excellent communication skills and having good personalities at the health facilities. The two are similar because they tell how crucial a nurse is in the system. And that they should be awarded proper psychological safety. The way the nurses bear many responsibilities in the care of the patient should also be appreciated, both advocate for caring for the patient in a professional manner caring and professional manner. Mostly when communicating with the families of the patients, the nurse is taking care of. Lastly, both advocate for a culture of open communication and whereby honesty while performing their duties is unconditional.
