Psychological stages during job loss
I think that the psychological stages of dying apply to other significant losses. For example, losing a job reveals exactly all the stages experienced during death. Denial is the first stage associated with loss ( Last Appearance, 2017).one will tend to believe that the employer’s decision is untrue and thus cling on false reality. Further
, after realizing that you genuinely lost the job, one will fall into isolation and anger. Anger results when one realizes they cannot continue denying what has befallen them ( Last Appearance, 2017). One will end up questioning why and how that happened to them. Further, one will get angry if they find themselves to be the ones to blame.
The bargaining stage follows whereby one gives themselves hope of changing their lifestyle if accorded another chance ( Last Appearance, 2017). Bargaining involves the person negotiating with themselves. In the case of a job loss, one would think of how they would work hard, work under harsh management, or even take upshifts that they avoided earlier. According to (Lumen Psychosocial Development ), Similar to death experience, one could also reflect and realize the many choices they had.
According to ( Last Appearance, 2017). Depression is a resultant factor of accepted fate. At the depression stage, one might feel that the world could be too overwhelming for them. Behavioral changes such as spending time indoors, hopelessness feeling as well as suicidal thoughts define the depression stage.
Finally, emotions stabilize, and one begins feeling stable of their feelings. At the acceptance stage, one ceases fighting and accepts the reality ( Last Appearance, 2017). The acceptance stage reveals the confidence within oneself and they and a conviction on one’s strengths.
In my opinion, one must go through all these psychological stages to avoid carrying over anger and depression to another job, which might affect productivity and work efficiency.
