Qualities, Significance, and Limitations of Zines

Good readers meet different types of published materials during their research, and the existence of multiple writings complicates the processes of classifying and identifying magazines from Zines. However, the characteristics displayed by Zine publishers simplify the aspects of isolating Zines from magazines and related articles. Reading through the fact sheet five, rock and roll, 1970’grrl and punk, 1970 and riot, Janus and Aurora pieces of literary works links the aspects of narrating the similarities of the styles of tasks encountered in the writing, publishing, circulation, and distribution of Zines across the globe. The art of identifying the connections and similarities between the styles of work among the five Zines read in the library formulates the objectives of the essay.

According to Schilt (72), Zines are self-published works presented in the form of images and texts. The concepts of understanding the processes of documenting and circulating the contents of Zines associates researchers to positions of identifying the qualities and characteristics of Zine literary pieces of works. The history of Zines associate readers to appreciating the facts that they are made through a photocopier. Zines are the insights developed from articles, and that expounds on readers thoughts through the engagement of images and texts. The complete information contained in a fully published Zine incorporates the union of images and texts. The first quality of a Zine revolves around its appearance where the idea of images and texts are unified in the description of a fully developed literary piece of work (Zine). Janus and Aurora, for instance, explore this characteristic. The presentation of the Janus and Aurora work displayed the concepts of utilizing images in the compilation of texts (Schilt 77). The stress on image linkage to versions indicates the uniqueness of Zines in the presentation of ideas. Not all literary works include images in the exhibition of phenomena and ideologies about particular topics of discussions. The style of engaging images and texts in the documentation and circulation of Zines highlights the difference between the readings and other relevant sources of information discussed under research. The readings developed from Zines examples affirms the eligibility of images in between texts in exploring specified topics of discussions. 1970’grrl and punk is an example of a Zine that showcases the features Zines of utilizing pictures and documents. Again, Zines are non-profitable pieces of publications that are presented by a specific individual or a small group of people in a non-professional manner (Duncombe 103). Unlike magazines and newspapers whose contents might be composed by not more than one writer, Zines are pieces of work that leans on single authors and groups of writers during the presentation of ideas and ideologies but in the form of images and texts. The concept of linking specific individuals to the documentation of Zines creates opportunities for understanding the similarities regarding the styles of works presented by Zines. The fact sheet five, rock and roll, 1970’grrl and punk, 1970 and riot, Janus and Aurora all have a similar style of presenting their ideas. However, the aspect of associating the pieces of work to specific individuals (authors) serves as a supportive statement to the quality of Zines in terms of author identification.

The significance of Zines revolves around several forces depending on the intentions of its creator. Nevertheless, Zines are generally used to present self-published ideas or group based ideas regarding current issues affecting society. Zine collections are essential in libraries because they assist students in relating events or occurrences based on research through the engagement of images. The mages guide students in libraries in followings not only in textual form but also in pictorial ways. Zines promote the mastery of picture memory among learners in libraries.

Moreover, Zines serve as alternatives to mainstream Media in libraries. Students lack televisions and smartphones while at school. However, with the existence of Zine collections, students use them in place of mainstream media. Also, business students practice how to market company goods and services through Zine collections located in libraries.

In my case, Zines captures exceptional qualities based on the simplicities bestowed in the presentation of information and data. The application of images in the performance of texts guide’s readers and viewers of the targeted works in synthesizing and internalizing of the concepts described as compared to authentic texts. The use of photocopier machines reduces the complexities of documenting original posts ad images and as a result, simplifies the processing of Zines. The legality of Zines is questionable due to their unprofessional presentation and retrieval of information. The plagiarism levels of Zines is high because individuals or small of people depend on past details in the elaboration of contemporary ideas. The duplication nature of images and texts from photocopier limits Zines from rectifying errors met in the typing and presentation of ideas. Correction of grammatical and mismatch of images are complicated based on the use of photocopiers in the documentation of Zines. Irrespective of the limitations, Zines are easily accessed in libraries. Public and private libraries have copies of Zines which assists readers in relating the concepts in a practical environment.

In summary, the concepts mentioned in the essay above leans on the identification of the unique features of Zines. The definition of features exploited the application of the sheet five, rock and roll, 1970’grrl and punk, 1970 and riot, Janus and Aurora pieces types of Zine works in understanding the unique features of the literary work. Image and text usage, non-profession and non-profitable, individual and group presentation of ideas came out as the superior qualities of Zines.
