- Introduction.
It is a time where technological advances and globalization govern the current world while other important aspects such as reading books day by day are going into the oblivion of young people, while educational institutions try to save this custom and this knowledge that gives us reading in books, stories and fables
- Development / Body.
Reading is the habit of communication, expression and in turn allows intellectual development and feedback of own and new knowledge.
Currently there are technological tools to contribute to learning for young people. However, most young people misuse these technological tools, for example: in excessive use of inappropriate and addictive video games.
Among the problems presented by not reading we have the lack of understanding and personal criteria of a subject, another problem that will present is the lack of spelling knowledge and the poor quality of communication to people
Teachers strategically use reading as well as writing in student learning to improve student quality. To obtain a good reading ability requires the appropriate reading standards and additional good vocalization and thus obtain a reflection
Reading is the process of understanding some type of information or ideas stored on a medium and transmitted through some type of code, usually a language, which can be visual or tactile (for example, the braille system). Other types of reading may not be based on language such as notation or pictograms. It can also be given the meaning as one of the human abilities to decipher letters or any other language that is or is not invented by the human being (wikipedia, 2020).
Gómez Palacio (1992) reading focuses on “knowing how to read, making a written text read properly by a person, meant knowing how to decipher”.
2.1. Why is reading important for young people?
Today, most young people want to play a game console or mobile phone instead of picking up a book and starting to read, which blocks learning and thoughts. In contrast, the minority of adolescents who read enhance their learning, their general vocabulary and misspellings. Reading empowers the imagination and allows the development of cognitive and interactive thinking of any reader. It is important that young people read at least one book a month, because it allows them to stimulate their imagination and brain function. The importance of reading in children is very great. Above all, you have to give them interesting youth books so that they read a lot.
Young people have to be drawn to a book to take time to read, as reading is an activity that calms stress and anxiety, and many young people today suffer from either stress or anxiety.
Reading can help them in their school performance, since it improves vocabulary and minimizes misspellings. It also helps them to read aloud correctly, to analyze texts in general and to understand when someone explains any topic, subject, etc. Reading helps school performance in general, since, as I said before, it helps understanding and that makes it easier for them to memorize and understand it.
We must try to make young people love reading, but it should not be shown as something compulsory, but it should be introduced as a leisure activity. Young people must be taught the importance of reading in young people.
It is also good to teach how to make a good summary and how to make summaries so that they know how to synthesize in the future and analyze the information (main ideas, secondary ideas …) (readers, 2020).
2.2. Importance of following steps in the reading process, for a fruitful reading.
Everything has its adaptation process, reading is no exception. It is very important to follow them, otherwise we will not get the most out of reading and we will not enjoy it.
2.2.1. steps of reading.
the reading process proposed by the reform has absolute validity and coherence and the teacher’s mediating action in its development is basic, and cannot be deduced from a mere control and final evaluation.
During the reading process, the reader is actively related to the text, in a dialogue in which various thinking and expression skills are activated. The teacher’s action is decisive in each of the stages:
in the pre-reading (before reading, activating the students’ prior knowledge, updating their information, allowing them to define their objectives; during the reading phase, indicating the strategies that promote comprehension; and, in the post-reading (at the end of the process ), as support to deepen understanding. 2.1. - The formulation of predictions about the content, based on provocative elements: title, year of publication, author, graphics, keywords, prologue, bibliography, etc.
- Determination of the purposes of reading: recreation, practical application, location of information, critical evaluation.
2.- Reading:
It corresponds to the act of reading itself, both in mechanical and comprehension aspects. The level of understanding that is reached will depend to a great extent on the importance given to the skills of this stage. This is the time to put emphasis on the global visualization of words, phrases and sentences, avoiding the problems of syllabic reading, as well as those of reading aloud.
The activities are according to the type of reading
3.- Post-reading:
It is the stage in which activities are proposed that allow knowing how much the reader understood. The type of questions asked determines the level of understanding to be ensured. (unknown, 2020).
2.3. Each type of reading corresponds to a particular objective and interest. Why? How does this dynamic work?
