Reading Response-Presence

The text applies to my personal and professional situation. Talking in front of a congregation or a group of people might be challenging at times. Talking to the people, mainly if it is a job interview, creates nervousness that affects an individual’s mental ability. It is common to happen to people when they are about to face some people how they deemed essential to their lives. They are more concerned about creating an impression that would attract the attention of these people interviewing them. In the process, an amounting internal pressure is created, which creates mental confusion and agitation, which is prone to making mistakes (Cuddy, 2015). In my professional and personal situation, I am bound to meet and talk to more recognized people in the community. Similarly, I am prone to making such mistakes in life, thus making the text context apply to my life.

I was impressed by the chapter’s context as it describes real-life situations that happen to people. Nervousness is every day in situations where people talk to people who are more advanced to them. There is the pressure of wanting to create a positive impression that results in panicking and the brain (Cuddy, 2015). In the end, one starts fumbling and forgetting all they had planned to talk about throughout the session. Fear creates the panic and the dissatisfaction of not performing excellently in the speech.

Having gone through the chapter, I learned specific life skill lessons that would help me in my profession in the future. For example, it is essential to be courageous at all times while having speeches. Nervousness is a common problem not only for upcoming professionals and also a well-known professional. Therefore, one should not feel guilty when they are nervous as it is a common problem that affects everybody (Cuddy, 2015). More relevantly, fear, and expectations should be controlled among individuals to perform excellently during these speeches.
