Reflection
Concerning my assignments in the ENC 1101, my favorite task was the critical analysis of gender roles. While I was writing the assignment, I had to watch the Mr. Clean Super Bowl 2017 commercial, which promoted the sale Summer Citrus Multi-Surface Antibacterial Liquid Cleaner Mr. Clean | New Super Bowl Ad, 2017). Through the whole process, what was productive to me was the ability to understand gender roles in society and how the media fosters gender roles paralleling stereotypical norms. The advertisement uses ‘Mr. Clean’ to show the position of what society has considered for a long time as “Woman’s job.” It is not surprising that gender roles in the advertisement are paralleling stereotyping norms. And this is because decades ago, women accepted their roles as mothers and wives by being submissive. In contrast, men also took their roles to be breadwinners and husbands. Also, given the stereotypical promotion of commercials, it became deeply rooted in society. All in all, men and women should share roles equally and abolish gender stereotyping.
In response to Shamart Williams’ post on stress and diet, I agree with the writer’s idea that stress can make one make a person eat unhealthy food choices, such as eating foods rich in sugar or junk. What is more, I agree that people should understand that stress is something that can be easily managed. Stress management is proper because it improves our wellness and wellbeing. From my experience, the statement is true because managing stress by eating healthy diets is beneficial. Secondly, in response to Shamart Williams’ post on the writing process, I agree with Shamart that meeting the instructor’s expectations improves writing ability because it improved my creativity. However, it will be more useful for Shamart to carry out extensive research from the internet and text resources to ensure writing skills develop further.
