Relation of works and themes in the various poem
The narrators of many poems as asserted by Awan (2015) invest most of their literature on the good, supernatural and from the poems highlighted in this essay feminism. This essay is going to focus on the three poems in which it will compare and contrast various works based on shared themes found out from various works. Moreover, it will highlight the specific literary terms and concepts found in the poem.
According to the narrator of Cinderella, she has a view on certain tendencies that seem to be dim. The narrator as articulated by Madden (2009) paints a very cynical view of womanhood and feminism by showing how Cindarella uses just a white dove to marry the prince, the stepsister showing acts of self-mutilation to get a husband and the nursemaid who takes advantage of her looks to get ahead. The place of women having gender roles and tortured relationships in society was viewed by Anne Sexton too in her work. In the poem above women are single-minded, foolish and superficial However according to Anne sexton women should portray such traits.
Women’s relationships with men are the main theme that can be seen when it comes to Sylvia Plath’s poem ‘Daddy’. Their relationship in general affirmed by Gale (2016) comes in a time when feminists fought for the rights of women and achieved greater strides in light with how people viewed gender in society. It was written in 1960, although it does not highlight feminism in detail it depicts a powerful statement to women against men. Also, it is aimed at all men who have in one means or another betrayed, suppressed or in one way or another passed on and left wives and daughters.
The argument between a woman and their father in the poem ‘Conversation with my Father’ about their style of fiction shows how women want to express themselves in a way that everyone can understand them. Her energy and time came when the world showed less leadership from women in society. She asserted by Awan (2015) challenges patriarchy at the same time wants to express herself and also shows how women gain more strength from their experiences. Moreover, she is moved by pity from other people as their argument lies between the different experiences in life.
In the poem ‘Cinderella’, she has rather unique friends with the magical tree and birds being her companions. Without constant help from magic, Cinderella would have been useless as the poem shows how deserving she was of the supernatural power. Supernatural as articulated by Madden (2009) has been used as a metaphor in the poem to show how frustrating her story is. It shows how everything was handed to her on a silver platter with no effort. The story begins being less supernatural however supernatural intervention comes up later on.
The poem Daddy addresses a being who is already dead. The poem as affirmed by Gale (2016) becomes pretty supernatural as the conversation seems usual despite the lack of a second party. As the poem goes into its climax, many supernatural beings are addressed in the entire united states with the introduction of vampires and devils. The poem becomes more fascinating to read as the supernatural elements in the poem attracts the readers’ attention. This shows another world aside from the usual living that exists inside the living.
In a conversation with my father, the writer seats with her ailing father who requests her to write a simple story once more. She, as asserted by Awan (2015), is less comfortable in saying the poem that has a beginning and end as she states “everyone real, or inverted deserves the open destiny of life.” The main theme of the story is coming into terms with the grief of death. The near-death situation in which he is in as he suffers a heart condition makes her not have bad thoughts as she is hopeful and luck that he will not die and they will be reunited like the woman who had to use drugs so that she can be closer to her son.
As seen from other fairy tales, there is a battle between the good and evil. This one is not in any way different as the way the story is retold by the sexton, he retells the story. However, it is vague how the title character behaves. She is not entirely bad but she also shows traits of passiveness. Throughout the whole story, she does nothing. Moreover, as articulated by Madden (2009) we get no character development from her as her mother passes away, and she lives in a magical tree. Her stepfamily is against her but the prince is not portrayed to be less charming either. This poem as affirmed by Gale (2016) suggests that we need to evaluate what makes the good guy in many of our children’s stories.
In the poem ‘Daddy’ the speaker finds it hard to choose good over evil as he is obsessed about mortality. This includes both her fathers and hers. Following the death of her as asserted by Awan (2015) father she gets the image of becoming reunited with him by committing suicide. Moreover, she makes her motive of killing him clear showing how evil her intentions are. The good side being the unison in the afterlife the poem explores afterlife memories of the past and the paradoxes of death. Lastly, daddy is addressed to a dead person hence the evaluation of grief and evil in the society.
As we conclude there, the little disturbances of a man who lies n bed of how her daughter views the world of poems. Knowing that she is close to death he wishes that the daughter embraces art, not only the positive side but also the positive. He as articulated by Madden (2009) emphasizes that what makes art unique is on both the good and evil of the mother wanting to be close to the son by any means (good) but the son repelling and despising her in the end because of her indulgence with drugs.
