Abstract
Facebook is an American company offering online social networking services. It was founded by a gentle man known as Mike Zuckerberg together his fellow college mates from Harvard University. Facebook was founded in the year 2004 and since then it has grown to become the largest social media networks all over the world. It boasted of more than one billion users by 2012 and half of that are everyday users. The headquarters is situated in Menlo Park, California. It has grown and developed to almost every part of the world except countries which have burnt its used with their geographical boundaries. The week two topic I chose as a guide is communication in the digital space by Nancy Baym. She views the communication speaks of digital space as a credible space where people socialize with their identity shown; it is credible.
Introduction
Social media is significant factor in today life in the society today. It is difficult to encounter someone who does not have a social media account especially Facebook. It has become an important part of life where friends can hook up virtually and converse about important and casual matters. Through the network, people have also established business that runs online with supply and demand, orders taking place online (Ross et al., 2009). Some organizations too have taken their advertisement online to push their products through it. Facebook has become a huge agent of change in today’s society. It is like a place where people go and get life change in terms of ideas, reforms, and new trends in the world of today. It is essential to focus on the positive impacts of Facebook in today society.
Discussion
Facebook is a verifiable platform where people socialize. The platform has got engines to that contains all the information about the users and what they discuss. It can be availed at any moment when it is require by the authorities. It maybe through a court order that the information should be revealed. Though some users feed falls information in the platform it still recognizes their location and space and the close contacts (Hew, 2011). As Nancy say, digital platforms are reliable sources of information that can be relied on when making decisions. It was believed that it was difficult to maintain prose communication and achieve proper understanding of one another.
Sometime the digital platforms like Facebook allows anonymity and thereby making gender, race, rank, physical appearance, and other features of recognition a little blurred. This has helped people protected from the harm that is within the society. To Nancy, it seems that the studies on social media are not justifiable, incorrect. That is because they do not fully express the multiplicities of the ways that mediated communication functions to replace the so-called lost social cues. This cues are always praying on people in the digital platforms to get information that could make then feel frustrated when they get into wrong people’s hands.
In social media platforms have got mediated communications where clue would create groups specifically for people with the same agenda. Therefore, it results into what people do with mediated communication vs what mediation does to communication (Kross et al., 2013). It is believed that the process seemed to very fair while on the contrary its intention is share the information to other platforms like Wikipedia. Even though the platforms lists the rules that users should follow as they interact or face being banned but are not always followed up. The rules are exclusively have to do with personal identity and always try to merger on anonymity of interaction (Junxiong et al., 1995). They go further to encourage users to feel free and discourage racism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, and many others.
There are some social media users who consider posting third that trigger emotional reactions making the administrators to warn them against such acts. This kind of people are the kind who uses mediated communication in order to enhance specific social interaction. It is significant to build and reinforce social networks for people who do not follow rule and respect people boundaries.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Facebook that is the most social media platform has proved to be the most influential platform that engages more than a billion followers. It mediates an interactive communication between people and groups. The safety of people’s information is guaranteed since they hold the value of information privacy. A lot of people use the media on a daily basis and get the relevant contents which would help them in their daily living. However, there are people who have got bad intentions on the space trying make life unbearable for others. They would hack accounts, steal information using various tack ticks that are available. This has been discourage but the ill-motive people still persist. They are hell-bent on the activity. Therefore it important that engineers make the systems temper-proof.
Recommendations
After the study this report would offer the following recommendations
- Every user of Facebook should keep secret of his or her log in details
- Every user of Facebook should keep their information safe and avoid sharing
- The platform should enhance it security details
- The clues who steals users’ information should be arrested and be prosecuted.
