Peace is the absence of conflicts (Oxford Dictionary) where people and communities are friendly to each other. Violence can be triggered by various factors such as injustice and unfairness, theft and scramble for the limited resources. The factors mentioned above are not limited to any timelines. They happened in historical times, and so do they happen in the present. According to Mead, men and women of Tacholi were peaceful in temperament, and no man or woman engaged in a war, unlike the Mundungur, where men and women were warlike (Mead 38).

There are communities known to have been peaceful in the past, yet there are individuals without violence in modern societies. It cannot be said enough that the Arapesh community of people with peaceful temperament can represent people from societies with peaceful characteristics. Amidst violent people, there exist individuals who are calm and non-violent. Several factors can come to play into how people will react.  Environment and upbringing can influence and socialize a person to behave in a certain way. Children who grow in an environment with violence and arms will adapt to that and find that they are involved in violence.

In modern society, there are individuals in specific groups who are peaceful. For instance, in the religious community, it is found that the basic principles and doctrines teach about peace. For example, Christians are encouraged to maintain peace and live in harmony. So are Muslims who are encouraged to be gentle to one another.
