RIGHTS THAT EMPLOYEES ARE ENTITLED TO WHILE IN THEIR WORKPLACE.
An employees’ rights while at work, is an essential thing. Many employees spend most of their time at their workplace. An employer must respect their employees and their rights, especially those that are guaranteed by the law. Some laws are designed to protect employees’ rights while at their workplace.
First and foremost, there are laws designed against discrimination. This is based on one’s color, nationality, religion, gender, and age. That is according to the civil rights act of 1964; hence an employer does not have any legal right to deny someone a job based on those qualities.
Furthermore, an employee has the right to receive “his” wage after doing their work as agreed. The government has rates also including the minimum wage that an employee should be issued. This wage is supposed to be paid for all the hours that an employee has spent while at the workplace. The wage amount is supposed to be added in case there is overtime.
Also, an employee has the right to work in a safe place. OSHA is the federal agency that makes sure that this law is abided by. In case a workplace has unsafe conditions, the firm may be imposed large fines. An employer, too, must be accountable in case an employee is injured while at the workplace. However, some employers may deny an employee this right. In case an employee is involved in such a situation, there are workers’ compensation laws that are designed to ensure that the employer or the firm’s insurance company is accountable.
Lastly, an employee has a right to be paid for overtime hours. This is the extra hours that an employee may work. This extra wage is usually considered if an employee works up to over forty hours in a week. However, in some states like California, the extra wage is considered if an employee works for over 8 hours in a day. This extra wage that is paid for the overtime hours must be issued to the employee.
In conclusion, these laws are made to protect employees from abuse by their employers, and every worker has the right to ensure that these rights are abided by.
