John Roberts is an American lawyer who serves as chief justice in the U.S. since 2005. Similarly, Roberts has authored numerous majority opinions in landmark cases such as the business versus Sebelius case.
Judicial philosophy
Roberts has been affiliated with the conservative judicial philosophy. However, Robert’s vote towards the National Federation of Independent Business vs. Sebelius led to the press contrasting him for the Rehnquist court (Biography.com Editors, 2020). His judicial philosophy was against him, upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). As such, the chief justice’s judicial philosophy is seen to consist of four principles, namely judicial avoidance, clarity, narrow construction, and judicial deference. Consequently, Robert’s philosophy has seen refocus the supreme court into an era of judicial restraint and a high level of deference to already existing power.
Education and family background
After completing high school, Robert attended Harvard College with aspirations of becoming a history professor. After graduating, Robert joined Harvard Law School, where he developed the aspirations of being a lawyer and graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. in 1979. Robert’s high honors and Harvard law saw him being recruited to the U.S. court of appeals and then as an associate in America’s supreme court. On the other hand, Robert is married to Jane Sullivan and has two children, namely Josephine and Jack. The renowned supreme court judge was brought up by his parents Glover Roberts and Rosemary Podrask.
Cases
John Robert, as a supreme court judge, has been known for his insignificant intervention issues within the judicial limits. For instance, the judge played a crucial role in cases involving abortion, the second amendment, the rights of terrorism arrests, and free speech. For instance, in 2005-2006, he was involved in the rejection of the plan by the Bush administration to try the detainees from Guantanamo by the military (Roberts, 2020). During the case, Robert heard the case as a circuit court judge. Also, Robert was involved in upholding the law to withhold federal funds from universities with military recruiters not provided with the same access as other workers.
Interests/hobbies
John Roberts has a special interest in special groups in society with the advocation for societal equality. Besides, the renowned chief justice has a profound interest in politics but has never participated in any political forum due to his role as a supreme court judge. As such, he does not intend to taking part in any of U.S. politics (Roberts, 2020). His interests are an illustration of the importance of strategic patience in his quest to serve Americans to the best of his ability. His hobbies include traveling and participating in law-oriented forums.

As such, the justice’s conservative nature enabled him to work in the US Justice Department and also as an associate to Ronald Reagan (Biography.com Editors, 2020). Besides, it was fascinating to learn that in 1980 he threw a party at his apartment in Capital Hill just to watch the electrons return between Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. Finally, his wife is also an attorney with the two meetings on a blind date. Later they adopted their two children who were born in a span of six months.
