Role Transition

About sixty percent of registered nurses (RN) practice their profession with an associate degree or diploma in nursing (ADN) despite the suggestion from healthcare organizations that every nurse should have a bachelor’s degree. Bed-side bachelors nurses (BSNs)have an association with better patient results. In the USA, seventy percent of registered nurses are in BSN programs. For instance, in 2013, forty percent of BSN students transitioned from registered nursing careers to bed-side bachelor’s nurses (BSN). The rapid increase in nursing professionals transitioning is a result of the recommendations by the American Nurses Association in 1965. The willingness of nurses to boost their knowledge professionally is an essential factor in increasing the percentage of both bachelor’s and advanced degree nurses in the medical field. However, the seamless transition in the nursing profession faces challenges of variation and inconsistencies with the requirements of the program and curriculum. Also, there is no consistent language in discussion of the standards of an RN to BSN program.

As a nurse, the transition from a registered nurse (RN/ADN) to a bed-side bachelor’s nurse (BSN) offers a sense of personal transformation and emotional change that comes with obtaining a BSN degree. On graduation, nurses gain a feeling of personal achievement and fulfillment as a result of their hard work. Also, graduation from RN to BSN leads to an improvement in self-esteem, especially with being in a large healthcare setting with other medical professionals. Also, having a new achievement as a nurse boosts self-confidence, which positively improves our outcomes as nurses. Upon attaining a BSN degree, there is a growth of interest in education and learning. Thus, nurses tend to sign up for courses that are likely to enhance their knowledge in their profession. Besides, interaction with other BSN graduates creates a sense of belonging in the nursing profession, which improves networking and enhances our problem-solving skills as nurses.

Initially, the motivating factor for several nurses with an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing (ADN) was the potential of BSN to offer chances to change careers and become stable. Going back to school to acquire additional knowledge on the nursing profession completes the potential benefits of the job. Besides, there is an improvement in professionalism when nurses graduate from RN to BSN. During the BSN training, nurses acquire leadership techniques that enable them to view their careers differently through effective team management and coordination approaches that improve patient handling outcomes. Also, an improvement in the interaction between nurses and other healthcare professionals creates a distinctive organizational culture that encourages nurses to reach their professional potential and achieve their targets concerning their duties at the institution. The BSN certificate allows nurses to be collaborative with their team members, eventually improving patient care.

Graduation from a registered nurse (RN) to a bed-side bachelor’s nurse (BSN) improves their nursing practice. The BSN certificate improves the assessment skills of nursing graduates, thus improving the outcomes of patients they are handling. Also, being a graduate nurse increases their critical thinking skills, which enhances their problem-solving abilities. Besides, being a BSN graduate improves the communication abilities of nurses, which enhances their patient-nurses and staff relationships significantly. RN to BSN graduates are better in advocating for the rights of the patients, ensuring that they get quality healthcare. Also, BSN graduates can view issues from different perspectives, especially when it comes to patient care. RN to BSN graduates can see the whole global idea of patient care.
