Roots of Inequality

According to Jared Diamond, the roots of inequality came from the crops we eat. This is where we had different groups having different things they fed on for survival. This was contributed to the change of the environments that were initially productive for farming which later turned to huge rocks. Due to this, different people had to look for different crops that they could feed on which led to inequality. For many years, people grew crops that were nutritious and healthy, and when the climate changed, they had to change to crops that could survive the harsh environs.

The type of animals that were kept by different people also contributed to inequality. This is because some regions domesticated sheep, goats, cows and horse that were used for different purposes. They could provide meat as well as hides for clothing. They were also milked to provide a source of protein, and their waste was used as a fertilizer for the farm crops. The animals like cows and horses were also used for ploughing the farms. Some regions did not have these animals as they had only pigs which could only be used for meat. This created a gap between different regions hence acted as root to inequality.

The origin of different animals led to geographic inequality. This is because the area that provided most domestic animals also happened to be the best producer of crops which made the fertile regions have advantages over the others. Civilization and overexploitation of the environment led to changes in ecology which made it hard for it to support some crops as well as animals. The fertile crescent also supported the survival of crops and animals not like the other regions which also acted as root to inequality. The redistribution of wealth and power acted as the cause of inequality since the regions that were fertile with great wealth took over the power and became the haves while the other regions acted as have-nots. The land itself also contributed to the inequality where some parts were more fertile than others.

Roles of the Roots of Inequality

The roots of inequality have played a great role in the division of the world. This is because the regions that were fertile with crops and many animals took power over the regions that did not have them. This is because regions some regions did not develop as European regions and America due to lack of raw materials. The gap created between the developed countries and the developing countries gave the developed countries power and wealthy over the developing countries. The geography was the reason why there are developed and developing countries because technology and innovations were first experienced in the developed countries. This increased the overreliance of the developing countries to the developed countries so that they could benefit from the technology.

The fact that the European countries were among the Fertile Crescent land, they had the power to colonize the regions that were less developed. Colonization was as a result of inequality in resources and developments for different regions where the fertile regions like Europe had power over the slow developing worlds. Since the domestic animals were distributed unevenly between the regions due to differences in geography, the developed countries were able to transport animals that were not in their regions to their regions. This is because they had the power to do so and all the guns and steel belonged to them. The globalization process that is seen in the current generation was steered by having some countries more powerful over the other countries. This gives them the courage to develop in other countries as a way to help the underdeveloped countries get resources that are not in the regions.
