Safety and security in the hospitality industry

Safety and security have emerged to be critical concerns in the hospitality industry. The security and safety of tourists in a given hotel is a crucial determiner of the flow of tourists in that hotel. Some of the key safety issues in the hospitality industry include health safety and public safety. Security concerns in the hospitality industry my include terror attacks.

Healthy safety in hospitality is essential; in every hotel or restaurant, hygiene and cleanliness should be highly considered. This will ensure tourists’ health is considered as the food and drinks provided to the customers are safe from contamination. Every hotel should ensure the availability of clean water as contaminated water can cause several diseases. Hotels should also provide safety measures in case of an outbreak disease to avoid transmission of disease in hotels like it was in India where dozens of tourists were infected with swine flu (Vinayek, Bhatia, & Malhotra, 2012). Public safety is crucial in hospitality too. Every hotel should ensure public safety, for example, by ensuring the protection of females who are at risk of sexual assaults, kids’ safety, and also protection of tourists’ luggage. Tourists should also be protected against raising terror attacks as many tourists have been victims of terror attacks; for example, the Taj and Trident hotels terrorists attack.  All these safety measures are essential for our class as they help us understand more about the safety and security of tourists in the hospitality industry.

I have learned that safety and security are essential in hotels as it protects the customers. When customers are protected, they feel secure; hence an increase in tourists flows in a hotel. My understanding of safety and security has changed after this research, and I now understand Cleary how safety and security measures can be implemented in a hotel to protect tourists. Some of the practices I would apply at my hotel is improving the health safety measures to be able to deal with outbreaks in case of a pandemic. Also, I would consider implementing measures to deal with terrorist attacks in my hotel to protect my customers.
