Safety vs Freedom Argumentative Essay
There are different aspects that we prefer in life making us different from others. Most individuals believe that living a comfortable life is greatly determined by the actions and decisions that one has to take on a lifetime. On the other hand, others tend to believe that self-expression is one of the ways that will make one live freely or earn one freedom. Thus it turns to be true that we have different aspects that are determined by believes that we hold concerning safety and freedom. Based on the critic of H.L Mencken who said that most of the average men do not need freedom but requires safety as a strong supporter of control and security. Based on the idea despite disagreeing in most cases we have evidenced situations where safety has been given a priority in the society through the debatable debates to issues that are long-standing in the society. It has been discovered that most situations safety of individuals in the society are prioritized because it is considered to be the immediate problem among the individual. However, this has changed from many years ago where safety was considered as it is rare in the current society.
In cases where security lacks the safety of individuals is taken into consideration. Taking an example, in the cases where the lives of an individual or people in the society are at risk safety is taken as the priority, however, in most cases, it is not regarded since individuals do not try to develop on the aspects of safety in a better way. Thus freedom is given as priority as most people aim at developing and attaining freedom over the issues facing them instead. In today’s world, most debates have emerged concerning the consideration of freedom issues in society than aiming at safety issues. An example of the situations concerning the preference of freedom is the case at the supreme court of Roe vs Wade that touches on the issue of abortions aiming to determine if it is unconstitutional or not. Through the case, the morals concerning the safety and the security are expressed where one party debates on the issue of “pro-choice” targeting to attain freedom in controlling pregnancy outcomes. On the other side, the opposing party considers it as a “pro-life”, targeting to save the lives of the newborns in the society. The “pro-life” party supports the life of the fetus based on the view that mothers should not be given freedom for abortions as it takes away the life of an individual thus it supports the idea that safety should be considered first then the freedom of an individual. Thus their interest is to observe the safety of the child and life over the freedom of their mothers. While the party of “pro-choice” supports the idea that it should be a choice of a mother, hence mothers are considered to have freedom on their choices and decisions that they prefer concerning the pregnancy and the life of the unborn child. Despite the viewpoint that we hold, it is evidenced that the parties prefer what they consider as the best given believe that they hold. Thus, priority is given on the safety of an unborn child in arguing that there are choices that a mother has to take before she gets pregnant and regulations are set to prevent unwanted pregnancy. By carrying a pregnancy she turns to lose the freedom on the choices to make concerning the abortion of the unborn child.
Thus it changes in the case where the fetus has to be saved given that most of the individuals take interest in the case preferring safety over freedom. Debates in the current world over the issues target safety in situations where there are threats. The safety of a child is considered to be more important than the individual freedom in the cases where it is observed to be reasonable the child will not survive. Following many situations that the society overs to an individual choice of actions, freedom is prioritized until when it is observed to be a threat to safety, making it a point of concern.
Having known that freedom has largely considered in society in many cases; individuals neglect their well-being without considering the consequences of the outcome. It turns out to be ironic as individuals give their freedom and safety as a result of failing to take caution resulting in serious consequences based on their actions. Addiction turns out to be the consequences that are observed in most cases due to actions done repeatedly by an individual. The topic of addiction has been common for long due to drug popularity and alcohol in society. In many cases, people have been witnessed to have disregarded their safety concerning the physical state over addictive substances repeatedly with the view that they have their freedom to do what they want and like concerning their life. However, the individuals end up making mistakes at a higher rate, based on the information on the drug substance abuse at 2013, it was recorded that over 24 million American were involved in illegal drugs and has been increasing repeatedly over the years. Most of the individuals abusing the drugs view it as a way of attaining or making themselves relaxed and achieving a sense of security as well as control. Thus, it turns to be ironic that they forfeit the freedom and security that they initially gave a priority when making their decision on abusing drugs. It has been noted that drugs give a body temporal security turning the body to be reliant on the drugs, in return the drugs take the freedom of an individual concerning the decision that they have to make on the appropriate time to use the drugs. As a result, their body relies on the drugs making them use it regularly turning it to be a daily habit. It then takes their freedom slowly. Alternatively, the consequences on the safety of users take the same trend, where an individual thinks that they have gained security. However, as time goes by the effect of drugs is felt on the body making the body desire the substances slowly turning a person to an addict each day. The most unfortunate point is that retracting from the addictive lifestyle is the hardest thing for the individual having been used to substance abuse into the body daily. Hence, the viewpoint that safety helps an individual when they are under drugs, their physical health is slowly given away. Lacking security also uses the same trend to the point where users automatically give up. Thus, the freedom obtained in engaging in drugs results in additions that slowly take away the freedom that an individual thought could attain and gave the priority forcing them to drugs. The addition is pointed out as one of the many situations that are affecting individuals in the world today disregarding their safety making them face the additional consequences.
In conclusion, many events regard to freedom and safety of an individual in today’s society as well as from the past. In cases where lack of security turns to be the most point of concern in the social safety is prioritized, on the other hand, choices and freedom aspects are also among the debated issues that have contradictions in today’s world. Having known that safety has been largely prioritized over the years than freedom in the society despite people disregarding their security resulting in the heavy consequences in return. Thus it is witnessed that the consequences are of more harm to an individual like the case of addition affecting our safety in the society and individual level. Based on the order of priority and carelessness we derive an understanding of the past concerning the priority of safety compared to the day world.
